OK, it looks like I have 2 choices on the suspension front.

Having spent a lot on my new alloys, I am on a tight budget for lowering the car.

It is my daily driver so I need to retain some level of comfort/drivability.

It looks like my choices for the budget are either Eibach sport springs with standard shocks (car has done 55k) or the Ebay Rokkor coilovers.

I have concerns either way - using the springs alone may cause my shockers to melt after only a few k miles incurring more cost that I probably won't have,

alternatively I am concerned about the longevity of the Rokkoers - whilst they are insanely cheap and lots of people seem to be rating them, I don't think anyone has been thru a winter with them yet - will they seize up or worse?

Anyone running lowered springs with standard shocks? Preferaby on a Mk2.5 or mk2 for a more direct comparison.

Cheers guys,
Steven

Have your standard shocks ever been changed? If not, running lower, stiffer springs will break them very quickly....

I got ebay specials on mine (not Rokkers, the more expensive Technix at £170 LOL), and they are amazing compared to knackered standard shocks. I recommend them, though I understand you want someone to check the longevity blah blah but they are so well priced! The ride is good too. Here is a pic of mine on the highest setting:

Your other option of course is to leave the suspension standard until you can afford the stuff you really want. Its not like the standard suspension is bad anyway!

I agree Ben, but only when fresh. After 120,000 miles on standard dampers the ride and handling was dreadful on mine...

My old one was still reasonably good at 135k, but the OP's only has 55k on it anyway.

As soon as I get paid I think I am gonna buy the Koni STR.T kit - as its available for £306.

My rear dampers wont pass an MOT now so I've got to do something in the next few months - I'm not arsed about slamming it, and I'm not arsed about track capability - the Koni Streets are seen as a good alternative to a new OEM setup, with the bonues of being a bit lower and having the dampers properly matched to the sprin rates.

Yes, yes, I'm well aware of the multitude of other options but £306 is less than the cost of buying 4 OWM dampers never mind some new springs.

Ive just had the str.t kit fitted snot rag and on the whole very happy with it. The front end now looks a tad too low, the back a tad too high but the ride is still spot on. When I saw how low the front was I was worried about it basically being on the bump stops but its still very compliant.

That is why I would rather have adjustable coilovers^
