I want to ship my car to the States in September, for about 3 weeks. What's involved?

Generally on a ship, in a container - with vast amounts of paperwork at either end. And painful blows to your wallet.

Would it not be more economic to rent - even a premium spec car - for this period ? That is unless you are planning on taking your car to a show or something very specific where it cannot be replaced.

I have a recommendation for a company that we use that maybe able to help if you PM me, With the relevant paperwork saying the car would only be there for 3 weeks then returned to the uk, I guess it would cost about 4-5k in shipping costs...

It's fairly straight forward for the large part. Any decent export handler sorts the bulk of the paperwork for you wink

Very little to do if it's out of the country for less than 12 months - though what you're using the car for while you're there does make a difference. If you're driving round it falls under different rules to if you're attending a show with it, for example. It's just slightly different paperwork to fill in.

Clean it, pack it, Ship it, do the customs clearance stuff, couple of forms to fill in at US customs, job's a cracker - off you go. Then make sure you notify them of export when it gets sent home, or at the end of 12 months (whichever comes first).

Temporary imports are allowed in for upto 12 months, and obviously you're not allowed to sell it while you're there.

Happy to help you sort it out smile

Already had a quote for that amount frown was just trying to get a breakdown of what I'd actually be paying for; perhaps with a view to finding a better alternative.

I'll have a trawl through my contacts for car shipping for you, 4-5k is pretty steep, should be able to take a fair chunk out of that.
What car is it?

Just made a phone call, Apparently it is very difficult now and pricey, A lot of agencies in the US won't deal with temp imports due to the complications.

A guesstimate from the company we use would be around the 4-5k mark.

I'm sure renting an equivalent vehicle would be far cheaper that shipping your own there smile

I recommend the tunnel on Mercer Island, just east of downtown.

I shipped my last car from Seattle for about 3K. Going out of SF was cheaper.
