My wife runs a '07 e92 330d. The car has only done 28K, 6mths and 8k since the last service, and I have had to recently top it up with approx 1.5ltrs of oil.

To me this seems to be a high level of oil usage, but from reading some other forums it is not too unusual.

I just wanted to check if there are any common issues that could be causing this, or if it is in fact normal. The car is out of warranty at the end of August so if there is an issue then I would want to get it sorted before then.

Some mecahinic types would say that oil usage is all dependant on how the car was run for its first 1k miles.
They think that if you baby the car for this period the piston rings are not put under load etc etc causing higher oil consumption but I guess thats all a bit academic.

BMW say that 1L per 600 miles is whithin tolerance. Anything lower than that and they will replace the engine.

Compared to us with high oil usage BMW's you have nothing to worry about whatsoever. The use is negligable and Id forget about it and just check it once a week like the manual says.

A lot of the oil seems to end up in the intercooler.
Not uncommon to read of puddles appearing under the front tray.
PCV possibly?
