Is the 1.6 and intereference engine?

nope. drive it till the timing slips
1992 would be a short nose crank as well i'd imagine. probably best holding out for as long as you can

'92 won't be short nose, my UK '91 (J reg) isn't.

Edit: 1.8s started in '94 all MK1, 2, 2.5 engines are non interference. I don't know about the mk3.

None of the engines are.

Well, it's not terribly good for the engine, but the valves won't go through the bonnet.

yeah my 91 is long nose crank too so don't worry about that.
