Converting Pagemaker ?
Discussion
You should be able to open a Pagemaker document created on a PC on a Mac (and vice versa) provided it's using the same version of the program (ie: version 6.5 is being employed on both the PC and the Mac). It seems Pagemaker can only do one or the other, so it can't update versions and convert platforms at the same time.
That will retain any formatting, and allow you to edit the document, output to print or whatever. As far as I know, you cannot export a Pagemaker document in Word format, although you can select and export the text content as a straight .txt file. You can also export the entire document (or selected pages) as an Adobe Acrobat PDF file (Distiller is part of the Pagemaker bundle) or an HTML page. The latter very rarely works that well, however, and much of the formatting may be altered.
Edited to add that you can "Save as" a Pagemaker file into an earlier version (v 6.5 down to v 6.0, for example) before trying to open on the other platform, if that balances the re-opening equation.
