VW GOLF registered in NI
Discussion
Hi,
I planning to buy VW GOLF S SDI 07 reg, registered in NI with PUI*. Local dealer in Leicester is selling the car.
Dealer will get a 07 GB reg for the car and will be done through DVLA, England.
I would like to know if it is advisable to buy this car?
Welcome any suggestions.
Regards,
KP

Why wouldn't it be? It's just a switch from NI DVLA to Swansea DVLA?I planning to buy VW GOLF S SDI 07 reg, registered in NI with PUI*. Local dealer in Leicester is selling the car.

Thanks for your replies.
Well, when first went to see the car i liked it. Its a ex-motability vehicle, which has no modifications.
Also its in very good condition. Dealer has given me the motability report of the car.
He is registering the car in England with GB 07 Reg and will be giving me the V5 and related legal documents.

I wouldn't buy it, probably used for smuggling bombs or guns, you know what the Northern Irish are like. Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer.
It's a UK car, registered with a UK agency, what's the big issue you can see?
I know what they're like when the car in question is a 306 D Turbo It's a UK car, registered with a UK agency, what's the big issue you can see?

Why would it not be advisable? Are you the sort of person that questions whether a £20 sterling note from the Northern Bank is legal tender in England?
Legally speaking a Nortern Ireland £20 note isn't even legal tender in Nortern Ireland. The same as a Scottish £20 isn't legal tender in Scotland.Back to the OP.... nothing wrong with a NI registered car

If it's the notes then google is your friend. Not legal tender, but generally accepted.

I meant the notes, and you are right:http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/about/faq...
Are Scottish & Northern Irish notes legal tender?
In short ‘No’ these notes are not legal tender; only Bank of England notes are legal tender but only in England and Wales.
The term legal tender does not in itself govern the acceptability of banknotes in transactions. Whether or not notes have legal tender status, their acceptability as a means of payment is essentially a matter for agreement between the parties involved. Legal tender has a very narrow technical meaning in relation to the settlement of debt. If a debtor pays in legal tender the exact amount he owes under the terms of a contract, he has good defence in law if he is subsequently sued for non-payment of the debt. In ordinary everyday transactions, the term ‘legal tender’ has very little practical application.
I really wouldn't buy an SDI Golf, they are totally s
t. Excellent example of a good car ruined by a terrible engine. Comprehensively underpowered, and less economical than the TDI variants. Your much better of buying just the standard 1.4 petrol Golf, which should be a fair bit cheaper and faster, or save up for a TSI/ TDI. Don't let the engine size fool you, just because its 2.0 in capacity doesn't mean its any good, it really is one of the slowest cars on the road, almost to the point of been dangerous.
Sorry this doesn't really answer your original question

Well, maybe I'm being slow but if a Northern Irish registered car is brought over to England, can't it keep its original reg? (as in, keep the NI format?)
Just see quite a lot of them, plus loads always for sale?
When you transfer from DVLANI to DVLA you get the choice of keeping the current plate or having a local plate.Just see quite a lot of them, plus loads always for sale?
