Just stripping down my alfa v6. Off comes the sump, and what do I see?


Pretty sure that's not supposed to be in there

Looks a trifle dented:


Still, it's done 150,000 miles, so I guess it didn't do any harm. Maybe I should leave it in when I rebuild

don't put it back in, put a new one in for another 150k!

It could have come from anywhere though. Maybe someone working in the car at a later date. Is there any sign of it missing a washer somewhere within the engine ?

Yeah I know, but that didn't sound as good
I've not found anything missing a washer yet, I'm going to keep an eye out as I take the internals apart.

I dropped a stubby 10mm spanner inside my Rover V8 once when adjusting lifter pre-load.

I dropped it...and it just slid down the valley, and past the camshaft in the middle lol oops !!

Drove it like that for ages. Once its in the oil, its never going to be able to get anywhere to cause any harm

Not so much brave....more lazy lol

No way in hell was I removing the engine to take it out !! and it simply wouldnt fit out the sump plug hole lol
