Hi,

I have a Snooper Indago but Snooper tell me they cannot make it warn me if I am over the speed limit, as some do.

I would find this feature very useful as I don't believe that safe driving is aided by constantly checking the speedo whilst in an unfamiliar area.

Any one know which makes and models of sat nav have this speed limit warning feature along with a warning of mobile and fixed camera sites? Indago does have the mobile site warning.

Cheers

T.

My tomtom one does this. Camera sites included and can be updated and when you get to about 75mph it gives you an alert.

My TT740 can be set to warn over the limit and also over a pre-set limit (100 for example)

My TT530 does it but its not perfect. It doesnt know the speed limit of many smaller roads , therefore it cant warn you. ANd its not instant, you need to exceed the limit for a while before it will go red/ping at you. I think its probably around 5 seconds but it could be longer.

With mapshare you can add the speed limits to your maps if you find a bit that is not recorded.

I've just checked my TomTom Go910, and the short answer is Yes.
You tap the screen for "Preferences," then click for "safety preferences" and finally "warn when driving faster than allowed."

To the best of my knowledge with TomTom you get warnings everywhere, if you set the unit up properly. I do very little driving at the moment, so I had to check what my TomTom offers. I got fined a couple of times for speeding, have revised my attitude and remained ticket-free for decades. With CCTV, average speed calculators etc, it'll get MUCH worse.
I find it extremely useful to pay for the speed camera database updates, from both TomTom and PocketGPS. I also get regular map updates when special offers come up periodically.

My oldish TomTom Go 910 can be set to warn of speed limits, via the so-called Preferences facility. I bought my unit from totalPDA three years ago, and saved a lot! (http://www.totalpda.co.uk/In-Car-Sat-Nav.8/?osCsid=246ebf5e5588f3b192e63bd1fd938067)

In use you can choose the warning sounds and also get warnings about exceeding any predetermined speed. It will also display your current speed, which shows both my car and motorcycle to have inaccurate speedometers. I'm sure the more modern models will have more bells & whistles to get more revenue.

Last year we did a couple of thousand miles on holiday, through France and Italy. I have maps of UK, Ireland and Western Europe, with regular updates by subscription. It kept warning me about radar etc in both countries, although speedchecks are far less frequent. There do tend to be lots of rather sporting warnings about speed camera sites in France & Italy.

I would never rely on a machine to have 100% correct data, perfect reception, and no errors, though.

By the way, my TomTom also works on Eurostar, and will display your speed in mph or kph. It will identify towns with strange Dutch-sounding names in northern France.
You will feel very smug whizzing past French cars and trucks, apparently slowly pootling along in the rain on the autoroutes, with the train's speed ahowing 186mph.

God, it's really fantastic technology, and I bless the Americans for letting everyone use their GPS satellites to navigate, absolutely free of charge.

Just don't blame me, or your SatNav if you get fined.

Does the overspeed warning turn on before you enter the new limit or when you are in the limit?

Only after you enter the limit, and then only after you have exceeded the limit for whatever the set time is (see my previous post).

If this is something you must have then tomtom really isnt the system for you. There are many many roads it doesnt know the limit for , mostly 30's, 40's and 50's so its not going to help you all the time. Yes you can add the limit afterwards but thats no use is it.

Having said that, what you need is a decent speed camera database. Get a tomtom, add the pocketgps database which shows van hot spots as well as fixed cameras and jobs done. WIth this database it audibly warns you about a camera, tells you the type and reminds you of the speed limit.

Hi,

As mentionded, I have a Snooper Indago which warns of fixed cams and mobile laser sites but, having looked at the locations of the mobile sites some areas of North Wales, I wonder if Snooper have them all, they seem to all over the place.

I have mailed Snooper twice to ask them but have not seen a reply.

Here are some sites in Denbighshire alone.
