Here goes, If you could pick a fantasy garage, consisting of as many or few cars as you'd like, what would you choose? The catch here is they would all have to come from the same manufacturer, umbrella companies don't count, just the badge on the front.

I suppose I would have to go for Audi, an R8, Q7, RS4, and ur quattro would be a nice varied stable, or If we include bikes it would have to be BMW - Z4M, X5, M5, S1000RR, 2002 Turbo, and an E30 M3,

ok, maybe Porsche, 993 turbo, 911 RSR, Cayenne turbo, 968 CS, 956

My point I suppose is that there aren't many manufacturers that cover a broad spectrum of vehicle types, most seem to have a market niche, I think I would end up with one or two cars I actually wanted, and the rest I would be pretty ambivalent about. For instance, I would never buy a Q7, X5 or Cayenne out of choice, or even a Z4M, but would need to have something in that category.

Are there any marques which would tick all the boxes, provide practical transport, alongside a bit of luxury, a track car, a quick road car, something to get muddy in?

Citroen...bear with me.

Their new GT Concept which they were on about producing.
C1 for town driving
DS for retro cool (and an SM, BX GTi etc)
If I have a dozen kids, the grand Picasso
C6 for my luxury car

An unusual choice I admit, but it's one of those manufacturers that have produced some strange metal, and are starting to do it again.

Edited twice for the correct use of "bear/bare" had it right the first time.

Funnily enough, Citroen did cross my mind too - they did a group B BX, and a 4wd, twin engined 2CV for those days when you just have to drive across the Sahara, oh and the Xsara WRC

You know, that'd be a great garage to have, that's a really great collection of cars.

Alfa Romeo.

A 156 GTA Sportwagon as the family bus first and foremost. Want a spot of luxury? Lets go for a late 166. A car for driving round the shops, a Mito Cloverleaf would fit the bill perfectly. A gentle cruise in the sunshine, let's take the Duetto Spider. If I fancied chucking a vehicle round a twisty B-road, could anything be as fun or chuckable as a Sud? And, when i wanted something really mad and completely impractical, an 8C Competitizione or a Tip 33 Stradale would be lovely cloud9

Big 4x4 for dogs/shooting/winter/towing is an essential one for me, though they did a 4x4 155 didn't they?

They did a 155 Q4 which was very similar underneath to an integrale but a 156 Q4 Crosswagon might be more in line with your hunting/shooting/fishing. (Nearly put dogging there, but I don't think that's quite what I meant).

All Q4 versions of the 159 have the same setup too. Permanent AWD with rear bias.

How big do you want? I have dogs and they fit in the back of my 159, and its available in 4x4.

+2 on alfa for me. Full spec 159, MiTo 1.4T and 8C please.

Mercedes have a fantastic range nowadays I think. Contrast to 5 years ago and it's so much better.

I'm sure I couldn't name one car in the current Mercedes lineup, they are all silver and all look the same, just some are slightly bigger than others. One brand I'm afraid I really can't get excited about.

hehe indeed.

Off the top of my head, I'd plump for Porsche.

356 Speedster for summer days bimbling along Shropshire's country roads.
550 Spyder for historic track days
928GT4 as a Grand Tourer
959 as the supercar
Dauer 962 as the hypercar
993 as the daily drive
997 GT3 for normal track days
Cayenne <shudder> for occasional load lugging

Cabriolet : SL65 AMG Black
Coupe : SLS
Supercar : CLK GTR
Racecar : Sauber Mercedes C9
Off roader : ML63 AMG
Practical estate : E63 AMG Estate
Classic : 300SL
Classic trackcar : 300SLR
Classic race car : W196

I think I'd be pretty happy with that for a garage.

If you think Merc's are not exciting, try one at Brooklands sometime.

I'm with you on the older stuff, especially the C9, but they don't seem to market their current cars well, perhaps the anonymity is part of the appeal, and I'm sure they're great cars, but still I find they don't stir any emotion for me, like the Nissan GTR, no matter how good it is, it just doesn't appeal to me in the slightest.

I know what you mean. TBH, if I was limited to one manufacturer, it would most likely be Ferrari. smile

nono You didn't read the rules, did you? no umbrella/parent companies, the badge on the car is all that matters
