It was bound to happen sooner or later-thankfully sooner- but finally, and after suffering in the night garden, the fking teletubbies, assorted other crap and more recently, Ben 10 and the animated batman, I have finally got jnr onto TV gold.

Tonight, through the wonders of YouTube, I have sat before bedtime and watched the first half of the TV film of..........

Thunderbirds.

God, I'm happy- a proper kids programme, and one that can be tolerated- enjoyed even- by the parent.

Why can they not make anything similar today?

Roll on bedtime tomorrow for the concluding half!!

Can't you try and get him addicted to the Discovery Channel so he can learn as well?

I'm afraid the hour before bed is not for learning- it's for sitting quietly, having a glass of milk and one of the cakes we made today, and generally relaxing.

TV Film?

Was it "Thunderbirds are Go"?

This was a full length movie made in widescreen specifically for cinema release. I know, I saw it as a kid at the time.

For everybody in the UK (and Ireland, where I was at the time), it was the first time we saw Thunderbirds in colour. Even though all the TV episodes were shot in colour (with the US market in mind), no one over here had colour TV as the BBC and ITV didn't start broadcasting in colour until 1967.

Despite the popularity of the TV series, the film was not a great commercial success.

A second feature film was made called "Thunderbird 6".

I'm a great fan, but The 1967 Thunderbirds film was piss poor as I remember.

I'm pretty sure Lou Grade called an end to it after the film's poor box office returns. Up until then he gave Gerry Anderson a blank cheque and said do what you like.

Don't even mention the 2004 live action film - travesty.

I've got a boxed set of Joe90, the Barry Gray score and accompaniments to each episode are brilliant.

1960s British TV themes were extremely well crafted and memorable. I can still hum most of them, whether it be Z Cars, Danger Man, The Champions, The Saint, Department S, The Avengers, Man In a Suitcase etc etc etc.

They are so iconic that in recent years some of them have re-emerged as themes for other programmes such as the Man in Suitcase theme being used by Chris Evans for his Thank God It's Friday TV show a few years ago.
