hi people
im hopefully going to buy a citroen saxo 1.6vtr(2001/y) with 62k on the clocks, its dark green with tsw alloys on,ive only seen pics on ebay but it does look pretty tidy.
its got a few months tax and its just been M.O.T'd(it did fail but the works just been done to make the car right, new discs an pads all round, exhaust welded/repaired,tyre's and a light out of line)
im paying £880,with a few spare parts(door cards, bits of trim, ect)do you think this is a good price?
and i'd like to ask if anybody knows if there any commen problems with the vtr or any thing to check before handing over my hard earnt cash?

thanks in advance!!

as long as you can live with being a saxo driver and don't mind having a french car then that sounds a fair price to me!

LOL^

Please don't be a stereotype and chav it up!

Also, rust. There could be lots of it, sometimes hidden. Take the trim out of the boot and check the rear wheel arches.

they are great, I had loads of em when I used to sell Citroens back when those cars were big. They aren't amazingly quick, but loads of fun and handle so well. Get the original style alloys back on it, because if using larger aftermarkets the ride and handling will be fked just for a bit of 'street cred'.

As others have said, take care, light and can be flighty.
"Slow in, fast out", to start with.

Just make sure you don't crash, they seem to be made from papier mâché and tin foil and the front crumple zones are your legs

link people? Who are they? hehe Is that this "Im" chap you keep mentioning? wink

Seriously though, this whole "French" thing is complete nonsense, so don't let it worry you, especially with regard to hot hatches, because all of the best hot hatches have been French (106 GTi, 205 GTi, 205 GTi-6, 106 Rallye, 306 Rallye, AX GT, Saxo VTS and Saxo VTR). People on here can be very racist sometimes, so just ignore it.

I can only echo the advice above really - the standard car is absolutely cracking, so if you want to replace the suspension, do so with standard Citroen VTR springs and dampers. You're paying a good fair price for the car and in a few years time a standard Saxo VTR will be more sellable than one that's been messed about with, so in the future when you want to sell it on and go for something else you'll get more of your money back.

enjoy driving

Saxo VTR? for £880? lol thats amazing, I bought mine for £7995 way back in 2001.

Loved it, but dont be tempted to fit lowering springs and drop the rear torsion bar as it totally ruins tne ride and handling. Also, it will result in a collapsed rear axle before long.

Have fun in it though they are great handling wee cars!

Don't expect a great reaction on ph, and don't listen to the rantings of others (speaking as a vtr driver)
