My Dad just called me to ask if I had any ideas what he should do as they seem to have misplaced all their documentation for their car.
No V5c, no insurance cert and no MoT cert.

In addition they can't remember who their insurance company is as they changed recently.

I've just checked the car on their behalf on askmid.com and so we know its insured, they no they had it MoTed in March so its all legal but they need replacement docs.

V5c - DVLA should be able to sort out a duplicate.
MoT - DVLA or should they go to the garage that issued it?
As for the insurance - how can they find out who they are insured with in order to apply for a duplicate cert?
Mum's a bit worried that they are somehow doing something illegal and I guess if stopped it would cause some problems if she got a producer - so she's keen to sort it out asap.

Any suggestions appreciated...

V5 apply for a new one
MOT you need the number for a new cert so just get it re-mot'd
Insurance I would check bank records for transactions and then call them up.

At least they are insured!

Replacement docs can be expensive - not sure what the computerised situation is but pre-computer I was charged half the then MOT rate for the testing garage to put pen to pad. I was a regular customer too.

Insurance will charge as well.

My usual way of dealing with missing docs is to wait for them to appear in a place you wouldn't have thought of looking in. Getting replacements is a guarantee that the originals will swiftly reappear (as happened with the MOT certificate grumpy).

All the paperwork can be replaced, though everyone seems to want paying for nothing these days.

I'd be more concerned about his health.

If he is going to keep the car past march next year don't bother with a replacement mot ,just take it back to the same station and as they have the details the new certificate will have the correct expiration date etc.

To be honest I wouldn't panic.

Tax the car online and you don't need any paperwork it checks it all through for you, you could even do it without a v5 as long as the reminder turns up!

Wait until you know the mot is almost run out and re-mot it, insurance will contact them anyway to renew and the V5 and other docs will most likely have appeared by then.
