have a funny problem, car is in NEUTRAL (type9 gearbox, 5 speed)

when engine is off, i can push the car, no problems
when the engine is on, when releasing the clutch, the car stalls, seems to me that the car is in 2 gears at the same time, reverse and one of the forward gears, so not going anywhere

any ideas?

Will the car start without pressing the clutch down? Has the gearbox been giving trouble or has this just started without warning?

seems like as soon as the engine starts spinning the car wants to move, but is in 2 gears, reverse and a forward gear at the same time

well, it started when i put the car in 5th after a bit of hard driving, didn't sound well when I did it, and now it's stuck.

car is a westfield with a vauxhall engine

does it do this if you start it with the clutch in?

no, when releasing the clutch (the gearbox is in neutral) the engine stops, even though the box is in neutral, car doesnt go forward or reverse, therefore i have a suspicion that it's in reverse and one of the forward gears at once or simply is stuck in a shaft or so.
