it looks like I blew my gearbox in pieces on my newly acquired seiw (if the guy i bought it from reads this then take no offence, i drove it hard...). Before i start removing the rivets holding the floorpan underneat the car, what else do I have to look out for? can I change the box without taking the engine out (assembly manual states that it's recommended assembling the engine/box before install). I haven't removed the floorpans yet so it's not easy to get a clear picture of the work required.

Car is equipped with a vauxhall 20xe engine and I assume its a type 9 gearbox.

I can easily source another 5 speed, but would it be an idea sourcing a 6 speed? I assume it wont fit on the custom bellhousing for the xe20?

I don't know what make of gearbox you have in mind for the 6 speed, but I shouldn't think it would be worthwhile anyway, unless you had a very narrow power band.

Post a picture of the underside of the car and we can advise on the best way to proceed.

Bear in mind that to get the gearbox out while leaving the engine in will need either the gearbox to move backwards, or the engine to move forwards by quite a distance so that the first motion shaft on the gearbox will clear the clutch.

I will stick with the type 9 box, look's like I got that type of box. I will get the rivets out and see what it looks like. I just want to prevent to take the engine out, might be able to move the engine a bit forward when I get all the bolts off

Engine out is likely to be the easiest solution unless you have a ramp to get the car high enough.

i don't.... I will see how far it takes me, otherwise I might ask you for a quote :-) Sourced 2 gearboxes already, that was apparantly very easy to find, let hope they work!

I need to drill the rivets to get the cover off underneath the shaft, can't even see the shaft

i was at your shop about a month ago, remember i told you i had problems finding a car that fitted me, now i found one, and i blew the gearbox in less than 48 hours :-) better now than when i'm on a track somewhere!

you did an amazing job, worth recommending, another thing, there is dragracing on Thorney Island tomorrow, what about you turn up in the Ultima tomorrow for a run? I will be there in mine + a Seight I just bought, could be cool to get a 1/4 mile time on your Ultima :-)

engine out should be one if the easiest jobs as a kitcar owner.

a few wires, some hoses...off it comes.

an engine hoist should be in your or a mates garage.

no? whats about further things like automotive specific tools, skills, space?

still no?

ok...it seems you have a big vallet?

again no?

than sell your kitcar and buy a vauxhall or ford!!!

What a condescending person you are. Not everyone wants to fix or maintain their own car and not everyone wants to drive a mainstream car. its all about choice. Its people like you who make the general population think kitcars are owned by wierdo's with beards and filthy fingernails.
