Hello all,

Anyone got any views on this ? :

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1818681.htm

Couldn't give a monkeys that it's ex-Webber but price looks reasonable to me considering it's got some (to me) nice mods but then again I'm no expert on E39 pricing. I've got an S4 to chop-in and so I may see what kind of deal can be had. I'm assuming with the AP's + KW's that it could be used for an occasional track day.

Cheers.

I think we dicussed it on the MPower thread and we sort of agreed that it looked a bit too tinkered with.

I'd be worried about how it'd been driven, even thought it'd got all the right upgrades.

I'm still out on the coilover issues, as it's too low.

It's also 2k overpriced.

Although it's almost definitely been driven hard, I would imagine that being an F1 driver, he's probably a big petrolhead and would therefore allow his cars to warm up properly and would be able to afford to look after them properly so I'm not sure this would be a big worry for me if I was looking at the car.

I wasn't worrying so much about him - you cold argue he may not have given a crap at all. However it's the other owners I'd worry about...

Talat,

I guess it depends on whether you want a modified car or not. How much more is this than a standard M5 of the same age/mileage? If you intend to modify anyway, then it could be "cheaper" to purchase a car that was already modified. Ideally I'd want to see the standard brakes and suspension included in any deal that I did, just in case any aspect of the drive wasn't right.

I'd be most concerned that its lost a litre. I'm pretty sure last time I looked my E39 M5 had 5 Litres under the bonnet not 4!
Looks like a very nice car but as pointed out not worth a premium for previous owner unless thats your thing. You could get a very similar car for a lot less.

Thanks for the input chaps. I'm not specifically looking for a modded car to be honest but since the bushes and suspension have been uprated I thought it might be a better bet then something that was still on its original suspension. There's a standard 03 car which is similarly priced and so I thought that was the going rate for a late sub-100k mile car. So what should I be paying for such a car ? £11-12K ?

Cheers.

All of BHP's cars come with a 12 month warranty, and the guys are a pleasure to deal with.

My opinion and the advice what helped me was look for full service history, condition and if you end up paying slightly over the odds for something you feel you can trust (made sure my warranty covered the VANOS) then go for it.

Give Mark Webber a bell!
