Most people take their ARD's instructors at Silverstone.
There's very few opportunities to take the exam and to be honest they don't like passing people - the more instructors there are, the less work there is for everyone else.
I can't honestly remember how much it was to do - maybe £250 or so.
So basically call up Motorsport Academy at Silverstone 0844 3728 212 and ask them when the next instructors course is
Oh - you have a race licence to do the course.

Yes. Search the RACMSA website (www.msauk.org) for information about taking your ARDS test and gaining a racing licence. Once you have a few years of racing under your belt, and roughly a 'National A' licence, then you can consider taking your ARDS Instructor assessment and moving into instructing... You have a few years (and more than a few £££) before you can sit next to people and tell them how to go quicker!

...... unless of course, you apply to work at a venue in leicestershire, where they hand out ARDS instructor licences with "Lucky Bags" I understand.Yes. Does the standard of racing you participate in have any sort of bearing in your chances of passing by any chance?
And what does the test actually entail?

That's where I work... But I can assure you that I did it the proper way 
The standard of racing can help but isn't the be-all and end-all - it is more about how you communicate in the car (in my limited experience anyhow - ask Ginettajoe who has been at it years longer than me!). You have to take the ARDS exam again and then do a few hours with a senior instructor 'in car'. There is more detail on the ARDS site.

Cheers. I think i'll probably have a chat with my two team mates who are instructors, as they're probably best placed to judge whether I'd be able to pass it or not.I think I'd probably be alright, although it has to be said I would much prefer working with data than 'in car' as I have a limited amount of bottle.

My son had a go atbeing a race instructer at Oulton park. Passed tha ards test no problem. Quit after two days as he has never been so scared in his life sitting there with wanabee racers. It wasn't the speed, it was the stupid things they would do.
So its not all glamour...
