Caterham Slalom Day
Discussion
Finally had my first play in a Caterham today. Did one of the official Caterham experience days down at Silverstone today as part of my mates Stag do, and it was brilliant. So much fun, the noise and power of the thing was amazing, lots of arse out fun, some controlled, some not
. Started out well (1st, 3rd, and a fifth) but then managed to become very crap on the afternoon circuits, however I now feel a bit more ready for when I rent one from Scott (www.roadsporthire.com) for my mates wedding car.

They are very good fun. Have you tried one of their track day experiences yet? I did one last year at Brands and got in just under 100 laps on the Indy circuit all for £450. Not bad value when you consider how much it would cost to do it yourself taking in to consideration the wear and tear on your own car.
Did this today.. and really had a blast. Had NO idea you could have so much fun without ever selecting second gear...
Really enjoyable.. a bit competitive too
with the sessions being timed and overall raking updated after every session. There's a bit of everything from tight slalom control to long drifts and always the (in)famous final donut at the end before the "garage" finish.
Can really recommend it, I had done many track days before but always had been weary of drifting my cars (for obvious reasons) and this is a safe way to get started. I have to say that getting that final donut right with the inside wheel circling the cone at less than 10' away gives a profound sense of satisfaction !
I will follow up at some point with the drift experience they also offer but this was a perfect way to ease into it. Very good value and we were lucky to be only 10-12 all day so extra rounds to try and shave off a few 10s here and there.

These days are really great fun, particularly for those new to 7's, I'm sure they must contribute well to the sales figures. If you drive one set up for the road (or track) you'd notice a big difference, the experience cars are set up to oversteer and slide about (lots of rake, often Academy tyres on the rear pumped up nice and hard) - it really does make it so much fun and of course means that when you buy your own 7 the LSD is essential kit

Browsing classifieds as we speak :-)
But yes... Cars were set up to drift as much as possible. Soft front suspension and low pressure tires and opposite at the back. They were indeed "pretty" nervous but great fun to slide around. Had never driven a caterham before as I owned a lotus elise for track work and at the risk of being insulted by my former adoptive community... The 7s seem much more fun.
Mine was a s2 sport 190 which just refused to power oversteer, just impossible to do with sticky tires and high revving race engine. And I must say a C. could address this issue :-)

I've done the Caterham Drift Experience and now own a Supersport with the narrower 6" rears. Although not quite as slidey as the experience cars, it's not far off. Power oversteer is available on demand
Looking forward to finding a nice quiet car park and indulging in some nonsense in mine soon...sadly tonight I am going to a concert watching amongst others Little Mix...
