Bit of a bizarre one really. Got a tip that surgical spirit is excellent for getting paint marks/surface scratches off a car and after trying it, it's made a hell of a difference, where applied the paint's come up like new and much cleaner than any shampoo or stuff I've used before.

The whole 'wait, is this going to damage my paint?' thought came a wee bit after. Anyone know? boxedin Also, has anybody else heard of it being used for this before? confused seems a new one on most people I've asked.

That's all I could find on the matter. I used the stuff to remove some peeling stickers from my Micra a while back and it didn't seem to have any adverse effect, but some people have mentioned that it can cause discolouration if undiluted.

Surgical spirit is alcohol (usually ethyl) by any other name. It shouldn't harm the paintwork, but it will do a damn good job of stripping absolutely everything off the paint surface, including wax etc.
