I discovered recently that a crack had appeared in my exhaust manifold betwean cylinders 6 and 8 so i tried to get it welded on the car but it didnt work so i removed the manifold and got it repaired.

In the mean time a manifold came up on e-bay and i thought Gr8 just what i need so after some negotiating i bought it drove 120 miles to collect it and fitted it the next day.

Started the engine and let it idle while oil deposits burned away and SH** same thing Crack in new manifold in the exact same place.

I did notice something strange that the engine mount had been packed off with washers toward the rear of the car and i wondered if this was to relieve stress on the manifold downpipe.

Anyone had any simmilar experiences cos this is getting silly just off to remove the new one and refit the repaired original manifold

I know manifolds can be a problem, even new ones will need 'persuading' at the best of times. Good luck. thumbup

Remember both the manifold could be 20 years + old, and maybe just a week spot.

I've had to patch mine up a few times. can't remember where though.

Weld it up, the built-up area will be much stronger, it won't go again (not there anyway ;^)

Also I've found these things tend to go at the welded seams along the pipes first, this will probably be on the same place each time if they put the pipe into the jig the same way up.

Just finished installing newly welded repaired old manifold and thank god sounds good again.

Had an idea though I think im gonna take the manifold that i removed and have stainless flexi welded on just after the convergence of the twin siamese as this should eradicate the need to partially squash the big bore pipe where it passes the bell housing and provide a neater easier install.

Any one have any thoughts.
