Hi All,

Just a thought and I know there are other countries where the sun/heat is much more.

How hot does it get inside the car, when parked all day in the sun, in the recent hot weather in the UK?

I came back around 6pm yesterday and the car had been parked all day in the sun, no shade and the leather was sizzling, the temperature was very very hot inside.

Could the interior get damaged in some way from this extreme heat?

Just thoughts, don't want the leather/plastics melting !! LOL !!

That's why manufacturers go to the trouble of extreme weather testing - often in places like Death Valley.

I doubt your car will get damaged, but be careful of touching anything metal. My friend has been known to burn himself on the knob of his gearstick (which is metal, in his RB320 Subaru).

I remember the plastic steering wheel of a hire car being a little soft and flexible after being left in direct sunlight all day when in Vegas. The temp was rather silly when we were there, and the plastics in the cheapo spec hire car was suffering that day.

It wasn't sagging or melting, but was noticeably more flexible.

As he said. The car will survive fine. You on the other hand have not been tested to the same requirements.....

In the MX it's the top of the wheel that's scorching. You don't realise until you go to turn the wheel and grab the hot bit! yikes

On the TT it's the spoke. Same thing though - just the metal inserts that get as hot as a frying pan. Not much fun.

I live in Dubai - it's about 43c outside most days now and the interior gets hot but cools within five minutes with AC. Not sure it is really a problem anywhere anymore, as most cars have pretty useful AC systems.

I am now looking for a car with perforated AC seats though!

In warmer countries, ie Spain, Africa, Middle East, USA etc people tint their windows more, park their cars underground or have windscreen shileds which reflect the heat away as and when they park outside.

The rented current model Clio we had in Spain last year had lost all it's "soft touch" rubbery stuff off the facia around the heater controls, it had bubbled up and fallen off, leaving the black shiny plastic beneath.

i am finding that shorts and black leather interior are not the best mix, having to perch on the edge of my seat for the first few minutes until i have some cold air circulating is not only awkward but to other drivers must make me look like a muppet.

Ive had 2 Pumas, both had solid metal gear stick balls, made driving on hot days interesting!

As for internal temps, my current car has an internal temp sensor and was saying 34 degrees C last week.

Leaving your wireframe sunglasses on the seat for 8 hours and then putting them on can smart a little, too.

Make sure you feed the leather though. It will dry out eventually, and will be fked.
