Newly aquired girlfriend wants a holiday together and is suggesting the Maldives, the best time for me would be around October/November.

What's the place like in general and what's it like at that time of year? I've been told it's horrendously expensive, is it all like that or does it depend on which area you go to to a large extent?

We spent about £5k in total for 10 days there in a beach hut (on Komandoo), flew with Emirates in economy, no scuba diving or trips off the island, to give you some idea. You're usually at the mercy of the island you're on so I'd suggest going at least full board.

I think the temperature is a fairly consistent ~30C all year round, it's just whether you'll get much rain that varies. I think roughly November til March is their summer so it's probably a good time to go.

New girlfriend plus Maldives? You better hope nothing goes wrong because the 2 of you will be stuck on a tiny island for a very long time!

Weather wise - November can be hit or miss. It's just the end of the rainy season - meaning short sharp showers, but still plenty of sun.

Christ - £2850 for 12 nights AI with dreamticket in a water villa last august in komandoo. Having been though, I would still pay £5k as the place is heaven

No, I was talking total for the two of us including everything down to the UK airport parking. We went in mid-March.

Might be tempted to try and go back one August if it's that much cheaper!

8 weeks maybe, but things are going really well.

Only my opinion and I could well be wide of the mark and I'm sure you've already thought it through but I see it as a big, big risk to be committing so much money to a luxury holiday so soon. Can you afford to spunk away £xxxx if it goes tits up? Why not go on a 4 day city break or a cheaper break away to test the water so to speak?

Been 3 times now, costs varied from 2 weeks all inclusive at £1150 each in September on Kuramathi to around £3k each when we went 1/2 board for 2 weeks to a better resort in November.

You can still get 2 weeks AI for under £1500 each in October if you shop around nearer the time. You'd have to be willing to fly charter which I won't ever again!!

I've been there in September, October and November and never had a more than a day of rain per two week stint. You get the odd shower, but it passes quickly. It rains a lot in the Maldives from May through to December ( much more than in the UK), but it really will not affect your holiday unless you are desperately unlucky.
