On Thursday we test drove a 57 plate Fiesta and everything look in good shape so paid the deposit and picked it up yesterday after it was given the 12 months MOT (all their used cars come with minimum 9 months MOT but there was only 6 months left so we left it with them while they issued the new certificate)

A bit disappointed to find that there's a couple of faults with it. Major issue is that the passenger side electric wing mirror doesn't let us operate in the down position (left, right and up all work ok and we never noticed it)

Also the passenger side reverse light bulb needs changing.

Nothing that can't be fixed but it's a bit annoying that we'll have to get it sorted after they gave us the big spiel about doing a 100 point check on all their cars and especially if an MOT certificate was issued on Friday (don't they check the lights?). Ford gave us a 6 month warranty with it but I don't know what's covered as the policy is coming in the post.

I'm definitely going to ring the salesman and complain but just want to check on pistonheads what my basic rights are and as a bare minimum what I should expect by way of rectification (i.e. getting it all fixed for free at the weekend and asking for a courtesy car and having the car delivered back to us rather than picking it up etc.)

What would you do?

See if there was a PDI, or some sort of check list for outgoing cars. If it says they checked it, then bring it up.

The reverse light isn't anything massive, but the electric mirror can be from being sticky, to dodgy wiring, or a broken clip.

I'm pretty sure that the reverse light isn't a requirment for the mot test but for the sake of customer relations I'm sure the dealer would fix this for you, I would certainly take it back to get the mirror sorted out too, this could be a lot more costly than just a bulb so get them to put it right for, I hope they resolve this quickly for you so you can enjoy your new wheels!

Well, the reverse light bulb could have failed between the MOT and your picking it up. I'd suggest you fit a new bulb yourself just to check it is only that and not a wiring or bulbholder fault. Then, if it appears to be more than a bulb needed you can ask them to sort as they should definitely also do for the mirror.

Don't do anything to it at all - just take it back. If they don't fix it demand your money back, which they will have to do and will cost them a whole heap more than any repair.

57 plate? So the earliest it was registered was 1st September 2007.... So doesn't require a MOT for another 3 months?!?
