Drive shaft joint

On the outer part of one of my drive shaft joints has a number clearly stamped on it
KN 060997 E1226. Anybody know if this is simply a part number or does it reveal anything else about the part like the number of splines or the size or some other detail.
Is it normal for the joint to come apart, ie by getting the inner and outer at the right angle the bearings can be removed. Not certain if that is normal or if that indicates it is worn. Inner one that has not come appart(yet) seems to have more slop in it.

Can't help you on the part number I'm afraid, but I recently replaced a CV joint between the diff and the drive shaft (I assume that is what you're talking about). There is a CV joint on either end of the drive shaft.
Yes, they do come apart and the bearings do fall out all over the garage floor, even when they are new. They are a real b*gger to get back together again.
Be aware that the hex-headed bolts have different threads depending on what type of diff you have - GKN or BTR. The GKN bolts are easy to find in most hardware stores, the finer thread on the BTR bolts I could only get from Clever Trevor.

OK thanks for that. I have learnt that some of the number is the manufacture date which makes sense as it is a 98 car and the joint shows 97. Having dismantled and inspected the outer one I am inclined to re assemble it and stick in some fresh grease. The inner one had more play so that may be a different story when I get it apart.
