Broke down today, word of thanks to McAllisters (through Direct Line) who tried hard but eventually recovered the car.

Anyway I'm fairly sure its due to lack of fuel, cranks and a good spark but no fuel pump noise when ignition on and immobilisor off.

Anyone know where the fuel pump fuse is??? I've checked the Bible and handbook but can't find it.

Other suggestions on how to fault find this would be well appreciated.

It's a '96 4.0.

Cheers,
Brian

Could be the inertia switch, for some strange reason mine activated?? its behind the glove box rubber pushy thing. Worked for me.

Otherwise Faulty relay?? is it really Hot? or Fuse, your manual should tell you which one.
Also might be worth checking the connectors in the passenger door panel as these can corrode, not sure if thats where the supply goes through but easy to look at.

Cheers BB,

Can't find fuse, not even in the Bible....
Relay's cold and can hear them clicking so suspect OK.

How do I get to the inertia switch??

Just this second done mine after a minor prang.
Either side of the excuse for a glove box, at the top are two screws. undo these and it gives you acsess to underneath the dash, passenger side. Right hand side is a soft button that needs pushing. Not obvious, but just feel around a bit and you will find it

Cheers Greeny I'll take a look.

Are you OK??

Your thread in Gen TVR appears to have been misplaced.....

Yeah I am fine, managed to find the switch without any need for help, so I deleted the post. Funny how you assume all things TVR are going to be a nightmare. Actually it was a 2 minute job, fired her up and drove home. Damage is almost identical to Danyboyo's, so no prizes for guessing what I am thinking about now. By the way the other party's car was undrivable, says somthing for the strength of the Chim!!

Also glad to hear that you are OK.

I am not sure where the fuel pump relay or fuse is but I have just been under the back of my Chimaera (to try and get the two exhaust pipes level) and spotted the fuel pump easily (you can also probably see it just as easily by removing the drivers side rear wheel).
Just a thought but have you checked the live feed to the pump? If this is live it would rule out the inertia switch, relay and fuse in one go.

Check the fuse for the ECU on the main fuse board! This has blown on mine before, and when it blows the fuel pump doesn't work when you turn the ignition on!

Have eliminated the fuel pump relay (replaced it).

There is no power to the inertia switch so suspect the fuse. Problem is I can't find it.

Old threads suggest it should be in the footwell. I've pulled out the ECU and cables but cant find any in-line fuses. Any ideas where it maybe hiding??

No the fuses are with the fuse panel (but not on it) and ECU in the heap of wires under the battery.

The clonking was the wrong size pads fitted at the previous service !

So I guess, if you follow the wiring from the relay in the loom you must come across it ( unless that year its different for some reason)

In teh Wiring diagram on page 84 of the bible it shows the fuse before the relay coming from the position 87 and is a white wire with a purple trace, OK yours may be different but worth a shot.

When my fuse went it was located in the tangle of wires in the footwell, almost next to the relay. Mine had corroded badly and hence not letting the juice through. IIRC there are two relays and two fuses in the tangle (1993 car)

Finally had chance to have a good look this weekend.

Everything pointed to a faulty immobiliser / ECU. Just to check the connections I disconnected the ECU then plugged it back in. Switched ignition on and then heard the pump running. A couple of starter turns and it fired up.

All I can guess is that the ECU and/or immobiliser was in a confused state or it was just a dodgy connection.

I have read this thread with interest as my Chim is lying at Knockhill Circut after a track night last night. Following a spin, I came to quite an abrupt sideways on stop.

Following which, it would not start. Seems like the fuel pump as there is no "whir" when the ignition is started and there is an obvious lack of fuel.

So, the discovering an intertia switch on this thread is good news.

If it has "tripped", would it be obvious by the appearance of the switch? It's where I'm gonna start when I go up today.

Cheers.

PS. if the opportunity arises to do a track day - do it.

This has happened to me this morning.

If I want to change the relay, what part do I need to buy?

Hi,

Sorted the problem in 2 mins. it was the inertia switch located under a flap where the "glove pocket" is. Remove the 2 screws and re-set the black push switch.

I checked my inertia switch and it was pressed in so that's ok?
Checking relay today as did not have too much time last night.
I was also told last night that it could not be the fuse as my windscreen wipers still worked? Is this true?

There are 2 relays in the circuit for the car to start, one controls the ecu, the other the fuel pump, if either is faulty you get the same symptom of fuel pump not priming. ( talking from experience here)

SMB response re-relays is v true.

Re-Wipers? Unless you have the bible www.tvrbooks.co.uk , The TVR "wiring" is never that simple as each year changes to the wiring bamboozle everyone. Get a multimeter and check that you have 12 volts at relays, at fuses and at the pump - it's simple to deuce where the problem then lies - BUT, you'll need the wiring diagram in the Bible !!!The handbook also contains listings of fuses ??
