Just tried to get AA cover for a trip the Le Mans classic next week and the AA no longer covers kit cars (even though I got cover from them for France only a couple of months ago). Any ideas of any other companies I could use?

Hi Adam

I got mine through MSM. It covers the UK and Europe inc replacement car in Europe. It only added about £30 to the premium I think.

Hi Adam. I use Tick Dirct via GoCompare, they do any car including Kits for just £65 per year. It gives full UK and European anual breakdown and recovery, and most importantly hire car in Europe for your holiday duration. Bloomin' cheap!

I went with the RAC after the AA gave me the same story. They explained to me at the time that it was because they wouldn't have technical data available to fix my car at the roadside. I explained that if it came to that, all I wanted from them was a lift home smile

Been using the AA for the past 6 years that I have been touring with my Westie, just done a quick online quote via the AA, and it's given me a price fine! So I guess they either don't class Westfields as kit cars for some reason, or maybe it's because mine is factory built, but I can't see how they would know that?

I gave the AA another try and the second person I spoke to didn't say it was a problem. I can only assume that when the first one went to "speak to his manager," he didn't...

Thanks for all the replies - some good ideas there for shopping around next time!

+1 for MSM.

Be aware though that on a French Autoroute, you are only allowed to use the appointed recovery service, you are not allowed to call your own help.

Typical protectionism from the French, but there you go.
