I am about to order a new mobile phone and i have the option of vodaphone or Orange. Im currently on 02 so i dont know what the reception around the Guildford area is like.

Would you mind giving me your experiances with either of these providers if you live / work around there?

MODS - Would you mind leaving this in the lounge for a bit please

Thanks

I have an Orange phone and am about to move to Vodafone as the reception in Surrey has been slowly worsening around the Guildford area IMO.

I've been with Orange for about 10 years and now I just cannot stand the low quality signal reception I've been getting. Having recently had a change of pgones at work to Voda, I can't fault the reception.

So this isn't a thread about a Surrey gang bang?

My lady lives in Woking, not too far from Guildford, and she's just moved from tmobile to orange because of no reception whatsoever on tmobile at home, whereas orange (same provider as me) has always been perfect.

We're in the Guildford area.

Orange.

I have Vodafone and had to buy a 'Sure Signal' thing for home, my wife has Orange and has great reception. My daughter (who is nearly 13 and therefore on the phone 24/7) has tried Vodafone and Orange and has switched permanently to Orange. Orange seems to give much better reception all over Guildford, Godalming, Bramley, Cranleigh, Witley, Dunsfold, Shackleford etc etc

I also have 02 which is completely hopeless. 02 seems to have zero reception everywhere!

Orange without a doubt - but it's worth saying on the rare occasions where Orange has no signal, Vodafone has plenty. But overall Orange definitely wins out in the Guildford area in my experience.

I'm in two different networks, three and O2. Three works best in Guildford while O2 seems to be better in Farnham. In other locations e.g. Ashford (Staines) both networks work equally as well. Try their on-line reception checker on each company’s website around the area you live.

I never really have any issues with reception on vodafone other than down in some places near newquay, however that affects all the vendors not just vodafone!

I have Vodafone live in Guildford and have not any problems with reception. I do think the phone can make a difference as my last Sony phone was not great on the train but my new phone is much better on the train.

Probably has something to do with the number of Satellite transmitters around that area, mixed together with insufficient masts.

Yes there are some black spots/grey areas... but nothing like the Orange/O2 Blackholes!

The Orange signal around Knaphill has been terrible for the last few months, I phoned to complain the other day and was told that 3 of the base stations near me are all broken. They couldn't give me any time scales for when they will be fixed either.

I've often wondered why the big four don't join forces on their masts. I don't think the majority of people buy their phones primarily for the coverage, it tends to be for the deal/package.

Never had any problems in and around Woking and Guildford on Vodafone. There's a black hole in Four Marks, but that's most networks.

Vodaphone all the way.

Some of the obscure networks suck.
Orange was goos but seems to have dropped off a bit recently.
Always seem to have issues calling people on O2

I live in Guildford, and at home my wife couldn't get a signal from her Orange phone, so swapped to O2. I have Vodafone and O2, and both have good reception. I do find O2 3G is better than Vodafone 3G though.

As others point out, smoke signals are better than T-Mobile.
