What would an average S2 get on a noise test??

Have just bought an S2 and am considering taking it to Brands, think that the noise limit there is 102db? Have passed an (extremely) race bike there once before but have no idea how the TVR will fare!

Has anyone been fairly recently and passed!!!

I've seen a lot of S2's, but never an average one!

However, it may be very close. The last exhaust I had was more than 100dB.

Thanks Roy, I know its a 'how long is a piece of string' question, but was after a guestimate!

Don't know if they were kept but the results of the noise comp at S Club would give you a good average.

not much more helpful than "very noisy" I know but my v8 is about 102ish. I think the last time this was discussed the few people who posted numbers all said about 99ish for a v6. The noise limit at brands is usually 105

I need to ba careful then because I'm doing the Nurburgring in August and I think the limit there is 95db it's a long way to go to be turned away

They ranged from 98 to 116 at SCH2010 but these were the noisy ones. My S3 is quieter than most due to my custom exhaust set up with 3 silencers and 4 tailpipes and that comes in at 94-96 so you'll be above 94 for certain

Thanks Gents, am going to risk it at short notice and deploy girlfriend in short skirt for the noise test!

I tested mine the other week, S2 with V8 Style "sports Exhaust", came out as 110db @ 4500rpm. I need to get mine below 100db for the MSA Classic so I can have a run round Castle Combe.

I`m not sure if there is one and mine passes everytime, maybe the tester is deaf.

For the MOT it's just a case of

mot manual said:

assess subjectively the effectiveness of the silencer in reducing exhaust noise to a level considered to be average for the vehicle.

failing it for

mot manual said:

a silencer in such condition, or of such a type, that the noise emitted from the vehicle is clearly unreasonably above the level expected from a similar vehicle with a silencer in average condition.

Most testers expect a TVR to be bloody loud, so you can get away with a lot as there's not really much that could be unreasonably above the level you'd expect.

the last time I looked into it I do believe that anything under 3.5 ton was no louder then 80 db and anything over .5 no louder then 85db.

Times have changed and I could be wrong with this now..

(if you pick up a prim and proper MOT tester they'll just say "its to be no louder then standard!" )
