I have been doing some thinking recently and am wanting to visit Chernobyl at some point in the near future.

Just thought I would ask and see if anyone has visited before and how they went around booking tours with guides etc..

The site has just interested me a lot and would be one of those things I want to see first hand especially after reading a lot about it all and seeing so many pictures from others..

Mods if you could leave in The Lounge for a while as I think I'll get more response, much appreciated!

Cheers

Mike

May not be true, but I read somewhere that that is a fake.

You never know with the ol' internet. smile

If you want to see some where after it has suffered the effects of a nuclear meltdown, can you not just visit Sheffield?.......biggrin

Absolutely thriving nature reserve these days apparently.

The radiation didn't feck around with DNA as much as they thought it would. Little human interference.

Wolves and Bears seen recently.

Feckin' Bears!

The fish are immense..!

It does look like a huge nature reserve built into a city.. Apparently horses, wolves, boar and bears roam freely within the grounds largely unaffected by the radiation.. (unless they have super strength/night vision/laser vision etc)

I just think it looks like an awesome place to visit.. think i'll be booking a weekend over there later in the year

The local tour company will drop you off near it and will not go within 5 miles of the town.Enter at your own risk plus no travel insurance company will touch you.

There are tour companies that take you around the whole zone.. inc the fair ground, sports centre etc..!

Funnily enough i was looking into this last night.

The radiation levels are considered safe. The Ghost town Pripyat which was evacuated after the reactor meltdown is safe to visit ( one with the ferris wheel ).

They run tours through the town apparantley. And you can go inside some of the abandoned buildings.

Just keep well away from the reactor , or in a few years time you will be growing extra fingers and toes.

And i'll be staying well away from the Reactor itself..
