I was watching doctor who last Saturday and his assistant (amy pond) travelled back in time and was talking to her younger self, is this a paradox?
according to "back to the future" this would be impossible, yes im a nerd but an inquisitive one.

What with it being completely fictitious I don't think it really matters do you?

They can pretty much right what they like without really having to consider the long term effects and conflicting stories from other writers, I wouldn't worry about it.

A paradox is the way my Mrs actually sweeps sand off of her flower beds, she is such a tidy freak, yet fails to take down the clean washing while she is doing it, yet busts me for throwing the weeds Im pulling out of her flower bed (not a euphemism) on to the concrete she just swept.

It just makes no fking sense.

I can't imagine that a hollywood teen movie would be based on innacurate science.

Wierd science better be bloody true...

Why would it be a problem, all your cells are replaced all the time so it is not like it is the same matter.

Of course if you gave yourself a wedgie you may leave mental scars for your future self.

Classic, I quite enjoyed this at the time, the shower scene with the two lads and Kelly Le Broc was very funny.

You've 'spent time' with Mrs 308mate too?

She's hot biscuits though isn't she?

Anyone else?

If she'd have killed her former self it would have created a paradox, since if that were the case, she would never have been able to grow old and travel back in time to kill herself....In other words, it would create something that is impossible.

I don't think merely meeting a younger version of yourself counts as a paradox, although it would be pretty damn weird.

Suprisingly, that would lose you money as England does actually win more matches than it loses..

Nope, you're living in a dimension right now, I am living in the same dimension as you right now because I can write something to you at the moment.
There are as much dimensions as there are possibility's, every choice you're going to make creates an array of dimension to which you can freely flow. This is called free choice. All the other people in this reality are influenced by your choice as they travel with you to another dimension in which you made another choice.
Travelling back in time means you're travelling back to a dimension where you haven't made the same amount of choices as in your previous dimension. As the laws of physics are still the same in that dimension, you can talk with yourself in the so called "past", but as you talk to yourself, you will create a so called "future" for that person that isn't the one that would have created you as you know yourself. That means you didn't actually travel to your own past, but to somebody else's past living in another dimension. So if you then want to travel back to the future, you'll have to find the dimension in which all your choices have been exactly the same as when you left. This is when a problem occurs, as all our millions of choices may have millions of different outcomes, the so called butterfly effect, you're never going to travel back to where you came from.

Also imagine a reality in which there is no past, if everybody can adapt the past (or the future) to what they want it to be, that would be nonsense!

I think I ought to grab the film rights to this one before the guys at Dreamworks get their grubby little hands on it. This is going to be the surprise hit of the summer.
