I don't think there will be any fireworks in Finland but I expect by the end of the season the European ET record will have dropped significantly, and out of reach of most of the racers that were in the top ten last season.

The fireworks is on, 5.91@245 on an all asphalt track! Stunning!

Agreed, that is a stunning pass, I didn't think Alastaro could be prepped as well because of run off into the the water table, but shows how little I know about track prep!!!!

Hopefully this sort of performance becomes the norm for more than just one car and Pro Mod remains as competitive as it has been for the last few years.

That just about sums it up,
the bar has been raised What this means in reality is we will have to work harder and the way of european pro mod will now become more like that in the US and the passing on of info and helping your mates will stop dead from this day on,

Is winning a plastic cup and a couple of hundred quid enough to justify not helping each other out? I could understand if it was 10k to win..
Is that how pro mod is Graham?

Same could be said of spending 150 k on a race car and equipment to win that cup and money Andy

So why would that change everything Graham? Who will not help anyone else anymore? I have always tried to help anyone asking for advice and will not stop. There is always someone that runs very fast at times, I have run PM since -98 and you will find out this is not "the end of the world". I've seen it many times, Mats dominated half of last season, Wikström won most events another year with performance way ahead of anyone else, Håkan Nilsson dominated at times when he was active. But if you like to worry about it, pls go ahead! The only solution is to set a break out on the class, but hey there's another class for that...

Hey Micke, good to see you on here. I think what you have done is a great thing for pro mod. It'll certainly make people chase even harder to acheive the times you've done with the RB2B car.
Like you say there's always been a fast guy but everyone catches up eventually with hard work.
Graham, for me even if i spent a million quid it wouldn't stop me helping a fellow racer out. This is a hobby sport,a very expensive one,but a hobby never the less..

I tought that idea of sending over the R2B2 car and team was to make PR for the World serie.
What PR did this make? Well credit to the prep guys in Finland.
For years we have been thinking that it was the tracks that made the big difference but now has Gullan showed us something else. Maybe I´m wrong but there is a lot of horsepower in that car that you probably can´t buy, even if you have the money for it. Jealous? Honestly not, go fast in a "rental car" is not what dragracing means for me.

Redvictor; thanks, I think if we are ever going to race the Americans in a world championship we need to step it up a bit. Money is not the ultimate answer, there are examples of people running real good with over the counter parts (5 secs). Gunnarsson ran a 6.04 at the Main event with his over the counter BAE from a couple of years back(as far as I know) he just have a "happy" car.

KP; Sending Melanie and a team of 7 people the Main Event was part of the promotion, but also fun for them to go racing in another part of the world. This weekend I had to use that car because my 57 was not ready in time. What is ever the purpose of racing really? The track prep in Alastaro was shocking, they had made some major changes to the prep procedure and materials used. The asphalt tracks over here are bumpy, but there is nothing wrong with the traction, at least not at the first two events. Another difference is that the air is much better here, somewhat making up for the bumps. Has the R2B2 team been dominating in the US this year performance wise? No not really, there are a lot of teams that has been running very well like the teams of Von Smith, Jay Payne, Danny Rowe. Is anyones tune-up for sale from these? "Special" blower parts may produce 150-200 HP more than standard over the counter units, but most of my competitors this weekend had 60ft times like 1.05 or more when we had sub 1 second most of the runs and I just can't see how more HP would have solved those issues.

I probably worded that wrong I think,
By help your mates I ment the senario where info that is hard won is freely given away,
as has happend,
As for people dominating that is not confined to pro mod every class has one,
Id disagree about the end of the world,
this is the end of the world as we know it for any team with an aspiration of ever winning an fia title
i beleive that this is a defining point This is the moment where pro mod drivers/owner/in europe have to raise the game, ( no different to last September when the bar was raised and Mats was Mr unpopular ) to new heights, Quiet how we do that is another matter and individual teams will do what they feel nessacary,
5.91 is not the end of the world 5.91 isnt such a big deal,5.91 is exactly 1 /10 of a second quicker than Johan Lindberg in his first 1/4 mile event in a new car, it just sounds more because it goes over that magic number, myself and probably 15 other guys at least in europe have the parts to go that fast just lacking in knowledge right now, but that will come one way or another,
I can assure you im not sitting here worrying about you or your car or your performance, I'm just working through some plans to ease my progress Someone i know told me something last night,
"sometimes you bake the cake so much you cant fkin eat it" Thats the Aussie way of saying stop confusing yourself with over complicated stuff, You know who i mean and hes right,
I think your being a little sensitive Mike, and also a naive if you think it will have no effect on the class
I can understand that cause your were shall we say not the most popular guy at the track ;-)
You gotta understand Mike you just smacked everyones ass, thats gonna sting for a while......

My intention was to run the 57 already at Alastaro, but I just ran out of time to get it ready. I'm back working on it now, new fuel and oil tanks to clean up the messy plumbing I had, also moving electronics and fitting a BAE, welding new headers and stuff. Will it be fast out of the box? Probably not, but I will try to sort any gremlins out before Mantorp.

Graham; the reason I get a bit "sensitive" is that I see a picture painted of me that is not really me, at least not according to how I see myself. The part I like best with drag racing is the tech stuff and understanding the tuning of these things. That's also why I have run my own engine designs since I started running a blower combo in 2003-2004. And I still won more rounds than anyone else with my own home made stuff. I just don't have the time to further develop it at the moment, I have been very busy at work for the last few years.

Jelousy is a terrible thing Mike,

Yep,i totally agree.Money just buys parts quick. The smarts upstairs are what gets you down the track. I learned that a long time ago.Making a car efficient in the first half of the track is the key to big tyre heads up racing, like the 3.89 in the 1/8 from yourself at the weekend wink
I think if the class worked on that aspect we'd see a ton more 5sec runs in Europe,as i think at least half the field have the power, which would mean lots of cars to choose from for that world series.

I dont think there is a team out there that dosnt realize the importance of the first half of the track so saying if everyone worked harder in that dept is assuming they dont, the difference is and you will find this out its not so easy with over 2500 hp, and unless you hire the track on your own for a day after a major race at every event you will find yourself in the same position, the rwyb track bares no resemblence to a prepped pro track,
what can you learn with 3 qualifying attempts and a first round loss at every race cause thats what you will get Mike has 16 years experience in PM to draw on My own SM experience accounts for exactly nothing on the PM car the lindbergs have a turnkey us car and a us tuner calling the shots with the tune up and the clutch manufacturer a permanant fixture in his pit,
Dont assume were all lazy but we are all starting with zero information at the start of our PM career,
Its realy not easy and anyone who thinks different will have a rude awakening

I didn't say they weren't trying,i said they needed to work on it.That doesn't imply anything but what it says.
I can't see anywhere in my reply where i said it was easy either.
I have raced before, and in powerful stuff. I know what the difference is between a RWYB track and prepped track too.
When i get there i'm sure i'll be fodder to begin with, but i have a lot of people with experience to call on when the time comes to step up.. And if we're having trouble we'll work harder at it to make it work.
Besides,i certainly don't want to rotate the earth when i arrive, just getting down the track and gathering data is what i want to do.That was the idea of sticking with the turbo/converter deal because i have some experience with that already.
Plus the one thing i'll have different from everyone else in PM is that the car will be a street legal car and will appeal to a much wider audience.which means even when i'm going slower it's of interest because of what it is.
To be honest Graham,if you stopped attacking others and got on with your own stuff you'd be much better off.Maybe you ought to call on the clutch/engine guys too? It's the way everyone gets faster by taking other people's knowledge and learning from it.
Like Micke does and i will do.
Maybe it costs to do that. How fast do you want to go and how quick?
The way i see it you either do what it takes to get you where you want to go and don't complain when someone goes faster,or sell the car and play golf..biggrin
