I had my wheels refurbished and I now have nice shiny wheels but pretty stty wheel bolts as they were already pretty rusty plus the wheels were refurbished to a gloss colour.

Granted it's not a show stopper, but I noticed today parked up next to an Audi that it appeared to have rubber or plastic "plugs" in the wheel bolt recesses and looked much neater.

I'm sure I'm just not looking but I'm struggling to find anything on eBay other than chrome bolt "caps" - any ideas what the "plug" things are called?

Thanks.

They are a major league PITA, new McGard bolts would be my choice if you have 60 quid to spend

£60 on locking wheel nuts or c. £15 on plastic caps?

The ones I see on eBay (car is a 2006 Porsche if anyone's in the know on these things) seem to be caps that go on the bolts and they seem cheap nasty "alloy" when I think all I want/need is some sort of rubber bung that would go in the hole on the wheel?

It's a problem that I'm sure £5 worth of rubber caps would solve, just a PITA finding ones that I know are the right fit.

No not locks, Mcgard make rust resistant wheel nuts as well. I just think those caps would be a ballache when you get a flat at 2am in the rain etc

Those wheel nut covers are the biggest time waster and pain in the arse if you're working on cars. Just get some nice chromed wheel bolts/nuts.

I've got nice chromed wheel nuts. The problem is that the finish is starting to wear away on the points of the hex, where the socket has pushed against it. It's starting to look tatty again frown is there any way around that? I think I heard about some kind of soft-wall socket just for the purpose, or did I imagine it?

VW ones are quite good, and were about 30p each last time I had to buy some. I do think they look better than a corroded bolt TBH.
However, the VW ones we have on our MK5 golf won't fit the bolts on my Porsche- different size bolts (Porsche bolts are larger diameter).
