I had mixed success on the weekend. Waved to two likely looking Mk1s and got one wave back. I'm in a 3.5.

Nice, had a 3.5 2.0 Sport tech R/C on demo last summer for a few evenings, loved it. Made me decide to get one this year.

To be honest most people I don't bother waving unless they look like they may be enthusiasts!
My friend and I out in mine a few weeks back received (and gave!) very enthusiastic waves to two chaps in a Mk1 that were having just as much fun! thumbup

In just over one year of ownership of my Mk3 I’ve had one wave, which was from a Mk3 a couple of weeks ago. The sad thing is I didn’t wave back because I was just in the middle of a gear change so couldn’t wave back in time (not to mention I never expect it these days) and it was just approaching a bend. I also felt a bit stupid as it was the hottest day of the year at the time and I had to have the top up because I was on my way back from a microdermabrasion so I wasn’t allowed any sun for the rest of the day. tongue out

I drove 220 miles on saturday, roof down hoonage, must have seen 20+ mk2's & 3's, thats a lot of hands off the wheel, and all for nothing, no wave back. My faith was briefly restored halfway through the day whilst driving through keswick and spied a mk1 waiting at the lights. wavey

1 wave out of 20+ mx5's is poor. WHERE DID ALL THE FUN PEOPLE GO!?!?

I did it for the first week to see but i don't bother now as nobody waves back. Odd really as with the Impreza 90% wave or wave back.

The best I've had in the Eunos was a huge thumbs up from an Afla driver.

I have a S Spec too but a 1.6, did they come in both engine guises?

Mostly blokes in old NAs waving to other blokes in old NAs in my experience. Ideally you should get double the reaction if someone's got one the same colour as yours!

Even if it's not that common, the times when somebody does wave really make your day - it'll be one of the things I really miss about the car when it's gone.

First full day of ownership.

Did I miss the memo? I saw about 6-8 MX5's with the roof up today? What's the fking point in that?

The weather was perfect this evening not too hot etc.

MX5 = me and the missus kid's. Were in love

Also had my first "negative" reaction from a couple lads in guess what...

A bloody new shape micra. O how i laughed when i *ahem* accidentally carried an awful lot of speed through a roundabout past them. biggrin Think they may have a different impression of a Eunos being driven properly now biggrin

  • note it was a NSL 4 lane roundabout onto a dual carriageway*
Braking for roundabouts is overrated wink

Also if the chap in the Civic type r is on here I very much enjoyed our little blat from Derby to Matlock down the B roads today.

I've had three waves / thumbs up / light flashes...

TBH I only ever smile or give thumbs up to MK1's, as they are cool and the rest are ghey biggrin

Maybe they just had a new roof fitted and couldn't put it down for 2 weeks?

Yeah I'm thinking the same. Had two un returned waves on the way to work today, a Mk2 and Mk3.

I wave a lot and I get a lot of waves back - I must must have a really friendly face biggrin

Last night was the PlanetMX5 monthly meet and the drive home at 11pm with the roof down was fantastic! Most of it was motorway with a bit of b-road hoonage at the end but it was still glorious driving with the wind across my head (I don't have hair) and the sounds of my exhaust blasting & charger screaming through the night really put a grin on my face biggrin

This would also be my experience. I do get the odd return wave, I hardly ever expect one so its doubly nice when it happens.

Something I have noticed is when tootling around on tiny B roads & when giving way to, or being given way to- I always acknowledge the gesture by popping the lights- & nearly always get a smile. People like the pop ups smile
