When were run flats fitted as standard ?

Anybody know when RunFlats were fitted as standard on the 525d estate? Had a 530 estate for some years and would like to replace it with a newer 525 but don’t want RunFlats What is the newest car that I can look at ?

If your budget will stretch to it, an M Sport car with the 19" wheel upgrade won't have runflats.

Apart from that, I think it was only the early cars with the base spec 16" wheels that didn't have them.

I was led to believe (by the local BMW place) that they all had them and changing the rims was not really an option. 525M sport is the car of choice and would ideally like the previous owner to have taken out about 18months – 2 years of the depreciation. Will look for ones with “upgraded” wheels, although in my experience bigger rims with lower profile rubber is not always an improvement. My current 530 had 17 inch rims without Run Flats from new.

Pretty certain the 19" wheels only became available on the Touring models from last year so there won't be any 18-24 month old Touring M Sports with 19" wheels (save for those who have retro fitted - likely to be a very small number, if any).

Why not just choose the car you want then replace the runflats (if it has them) with "normal" tyres when they wear out ? I've run both on my E61 535d (which came originally with RF) with no issues (well, not yet, but I've only done 200,000 miles so far )

You can just buy the spare wheel kit from BMW for approx £200. This has wheel, jack, brace, chock.
Then buy 4 runflats.
If you want to do this before the runflats wear our, they can be sold on ebay.
