Why wont they just off with that st? I would much prefer a rough but tarmac road, as opposed to that ahole surface dressing, what does it actually do apart from
Make a fking mess
Make the road look unsightly
Wear away in under 2 years
Cause stone chips in paint and windscreens, or in my case a few years back windscreen explosion.
Covers over the road markings.

Honestly what prick sat in his office and thought
"Well, considering I am total knob cheese butler with a budget, I think I will ruin a road today, need to pick one that, I don't drive and probably doesn't need doing, because I am a complete sack, afterwards I think I may go and gobble a donkey"

The worse part is, they don't even tell you that they are going to do it, they just lay that st down and hope no one will notice, then impose a 20mph speed limit which no one sticks to, unless you like your car, but some butt burglar coming the other way is going to now doubt shower you in chippings like a st bukkake, only for you to rage even more.

Probably the same dickbin that puts up those "your speed" LED signs, what a fking waste of money those hunks of st are and they put them like 20 fking feet apart like a deformed set of bks.

Why can't we ban that st, honestly does anyone actually like surface dressing?

You almost want to find the who gave the go ahead to do it, go to their house, ring the door bell and as they answer, just take a steaming fking st on their doorstep, and point out how surface dressing is akin to your now drying pile of faeces.
It's unwanted
It smells bad
You have to avoid it
Some has to clean it up
And like surface dressing it is unwanted on your way to and from work.

Carry on.

That was glorious. And I agree, I'd appreciate it if the repair lasted, but they just don't.

Quality laugh

Only last week I got caught in this ste whilst in a very rural location. I was in my brand new Z4.

I asked a workman stopping traffic if there was another road I could take and he said "stick to the speed limit and you won't damage your car"

I asked him if my car got damaged would he then pay for it.

His response "fk sake don't be daft". Needless to say I turned around and got the satnav out.

After being bled dry of thousands of pounds a year in duties taxes and vat, I feel conned by whoever it is that thinks that a bucket of tar and a cats litter tray is a robust solution to road repair. It doesn't last. It's never smooth and oncebtge chippings wear off the main line it turns to an ice rink in the wet.

It is quite fun though when it has just been laid and there is loose gravel. I wish all roads could be like a Finnish rally stage smile - I do care about my car before anyone gets a ladder out to mount their high horse, however I'm 100% realistic that wear and tear is inevitable so a chip or two doesn't worry too much.

Great Rant!

Funny enough, they are doing this couple of roads down where I live, sticking to the 20mph limit really pisses the people of behind you.

Hot weather + surface dressing = road in worse condition than before, with the two black bald sections where the tyres go.

The trouble is they cover the roads in these chippings......over a Sh*t road surface ....rather than planing the road and relaying the tarmac....
The long term Tory run Cambridgeshire County Council who are responsible for roads this way do everything on the cheap, they have done for 40 odd years....they put traffic signals where they need a roundabout...they need to address the main routes through the county...they know that...yet as soon as motorists rat run...MR & Mrs Nimby complain and in got the speed bumps etc, rather than sorting the issue that makes drivers rat run in the 1st place... All I can see it the Cambs County mentality to road issues being played out across the UK.......

Good, cathartic rant. Some imaginative use of language as well, which was brilliant.

There is a short piece of road on my route to work in South Wales that was a bit broken up, but tolerable. It was then surface-dressed and a 20mph limit stuck on it. Within weeks, maybe even a couple of days, it started to break up and form ruts and holes, as they had done such a sh!ttingly awful job. A sign went up saying it had 'failed' (you don't say) and that repares [sic] were planned for April. This was in February I think.

Not half a mile from there, all manner of cones and chicanes and 30mph limits were going up. One lane out of the two uphill lanes was closed so that they could dig up a bit of it, stating "safety improvements". A few weeks later and I couldn't even work out what they'd done. Complete waste of time and resources that could have been used re-tarmacing the piece of st round the corner.

On my regular drive to Bournemouth there is a huge swathe of dressed single-carriageway. I should do a maximum of 10mph apparently. Only thing is, the affected section is, at a guess, 5 miles long. Why not a) do it properly, and b) do small sections at a time, so that we don't have to waste half an hour crawling over gravel?

(In all honesty it matters little, as that road is the most miserable, awful, moron-congested stretch of stinking road i've ever had the displeasure of swearing on. (A36 and A338))

Quality rant! thumbup

They recently did this on a part of road that I have to use for my drive to work.
When we had the cold snap at the beginning of the year it completely fell apart and the whole surface broke up and was littered all along the side of the road and on the pavement.
Brilliant! thumbup

Quality rant - well done! biggrin

Near me they've just finished surface dressing a small side road; the new item (well, new to me) is that to finish it off they've erected temporary "Skid Risk" signs.

I presume this is whilst they wait for a sweeper to remove the excess. The signs have been up a few days now - I expect the poor old sweeper has a long way to travel at 5mph! laugh

There's one of those near me. I thought "oh really!" turned off the DSC.....

The risk of skidding was unfounded, sadly. The risk of causing alarm to pensioners in 20mph Nissan Micras was rather greater.....

I've got news for you, you and all the other unlucky chumps who have to drive over that road are the sweeper.
