Great Ad, they are really pushing out allot of Content & Media at the Mo. Now all we need is the 2010 Constructors and Drivers championship plaques on the new MP12 road car for next year.

Many years ago at the old Mclaren HQ I, and a party of chaps from my motor club, were given a tour of the facility. Talk about redefining the meaning of the word 'professionalism'. Absolutely nothing left to chance and we were told that any piece designed and made for the cars was kept- even if the piece never got used.
There are very few Mclaren not in the company's possession but there are a couple out in Japan with Honda.
One of these was brought back from Japan for one Goodwood FoS and was promptly stoofed, front and back, into the tyre bales. McLaren had the parts out of store and managed to repair the car at the FoS.

Is this an ad for Vodafone or Marlboro?

You never see the word Marlboro in the video. The cars have McLaren on them instead. The West is also replaced with Mika or David. They aren't sponsored by them any more so would have no reason to advertise it as well as it being against the advertising ban.

Its nice to see the modern lot still take alot from the past, Hamilton in particular seems to have an awestruck moment when he realises quite what that car driven by that driver represents for the sport.

Nice to see Mclaren doing this sort of thing, they really should get the old cars out for demos more, Lotus did a good job at snetterton of putting some current F1 guys into old classics. I'm surprised we dont see more of that sort of thing from Ferrari given thier powerful brand and history, i guess they want to look forward not back.

Nice to see the genuine passion these two had, it looked like Hamilton got quite emotional.

The cynic in me assumes it scripted/acted but I hope/think they really are nice guys genuinely having a great time.

That said I feel alittle sad to see so many great cars hidden away out of sight, unused... I know Ron likes to keep Everything they build/win but surely they would be better in Museams or doing demo work (I guess thats expensive) but then I'd imagine storing 100's of classic, priceless F1 cars isn't cheap either?

It won't be scripted... just edited with purpose. Still genuine though.

i think you can really see in Lewis's eyes what sitting in Senna's car did to him.
quiet an emotional moment for him. i also think you can tell Senna wasn't such an idol for Jenson. He's in awe of Mclarens accomplishments (comment on 1-2 on the cars) more than any one driver.
i do believe this is real, and hope they continue to be this 'chummy' throughout the season smile

EFA

Ferrari do (or used) to do a day at the end of the season in Italy with the Ferrari challenge and some of their old and current cars and the current drivers, not sure if they still do though

jensons idol was Prost, and he picked out the Prost car in the vid. Good to see that even through all the money, PR spin and boll8cks that is modern F1, they are still two pure racers at heart cool

I just love that first 5 seconds of the film. an amazing warehouse!

Does anyone know how far back the cars they have kept go?

Do they also retain all the moulds for the carbon fibre and all the tooling for the cars manufacture?

I read somewhere that Ron Dennis bought an old McLaren Indycar back because they didnt have one in their collection.

I hope they have a good fire extinguisher system on that building! it would be such a shame for that lot to go up.
