I am new to this forum but hope someone can be of assistance?

I am interested in purchasing an XKR Coupe under £15K, with less than 70,000 miles on the clock.
I would be interested on your comments regarding particular issues with the various models that I should be aware of when making my purchasing decision.

Thank you very much for your help.

There are a few on our site (www.xkec.co.uk) which might be of interest. Good luck in your search.

I think pretty much all you need to know is in the Jaguar World XK8/R special edition magazine/book £7.99 Smiths or direct from JW.

It has a full range of features taken from the magazine over the last few years.

Model Guides, Buyers Guides, Mods, maintenance etc.

A good choice of car

There are the fear stories about the 4Lt engine but generaly they have long passed

Like any car with a few years under the belt you will have to look at things that wear on any car

Maybe best to look at the 4.2Lt as with any model it gets developed

As Mark said join the XKEC Club and they is loads of infomation available

I needed a convertible and couldnt decide between a XKR ragtop and a maserati Spyder at about £20 / £25k

I found a great XKR ragtop at a Jag dealer with 20k miles and full Jag warranty and pre sales prep for £21k 2004 so you may be able to get a coupe from a dealer with all the back up and prep you need if you keep your eye out for a while - and it will take all the stress away.

Good luck

as discussed many times, the timing chains can break so make sure they have been changed to the latest ones, or budget £1500 for the job. nikisel (sp) linings need not be worried about now as the problem has long since gone away. front bushes wear every 50k or so so check them. by the best you can afford, and find a good specialist

Thanks guys,

I have ordered a couple of books from Amazon and read some useful threads on PH about rust and cam chain tensioners etc, etc.

Unlike the TVR Tuscan I recently sold they seem quite reliable and surprisingly tuneable.

BTW does anyone know if they produced any in Jaguar Old English White, as it was always a favourite colour of mine ?

If/when I find the right vehicle I will let you know.

cheers!

I was looking at the same budget when I bought mine. Eventually found the exact spec I wanted at a main dealer for a couple of k more and am glad of the peace of mind that comes with a years warranty. Your budget will get you a good 4.2 with lowish miles. Best car I ever bought.

The books you are buying shou;d give you specs and colours, but the ones I have do not detail some of the later options.

I presume that you know PH classifieds, Jaguar Approved used, and autotrader websites are good placxes to look. Car and classic website may also have some.

Hi Chequred Demon,

I'm considering selling mine, PM me if you are interested. It's a 2002 (2003 MY) 4.2/6 speed in Quartz with Cranberry/Warm Charcoal interior, with approx 66k miles. Some pictures here. Car also featured in Evo buyers guide so more pictures from the evo website here and here. Buying guide on the evo website worth a read too.

Cheers,
Graham

Hi

I sold my TVR and bought an xkr 3 weeks ago.....there grrrrrrrrreat

I managed to get a MY2000 with a sound engine & 57k on the clock. I have just had it inspected by my local specialist & the only problems are the brake lines are starting to rust, so im having 8 new ones fitted & the wishbone bushes need replacing on the top wishbones, due to lack of use over the winter.

The usual rust spots are the footwell front corners & rear arches above the bumper

My 4.0 has a borla stainless exhaust (jag accessory) which gives a nice subtle burble and a roar when pressing on, but you cant hear it over the supercharger whine !!

Ive also upgraded the speakers and sub as they are not great as standard

They are very different to a TVR and there are alot less problems to chase down ! but you'll enjoy the waves of power and the 80+ accelleration is unbeleivable
