I was trawling through eBay looking at Mazda MX5's, when I saw a nice 1995 UK Car with low miles for sale.. I decided to give the guy a call. Alot of the time when I ring about things on the mainland I often get greeted with "Ahhhrite Mate.." from someone who sounds as if they're trying to shift something out of the boot of their car.

But this man was extremely polite, very well spoken.. I told him I was ringing about the "Blue 1.8 Mazda MX5" (He seems to be a small indy dealer, and in the past i've had responses of 'what car are you on about?' from dealers.. But he knew right away the car I was referring to). He was happy to talk about the car, was honest about any sort of issues with the car, he gave me a rundown of the history and when I told him I was from Northern Ireland he offered to go out and take some better pictures of the car (Normally this is something that I ask people to do, and rarely will they take more than one or two pictures.. I was warned that he might get carried away with the camera so it could take a while to download).

He then said that if I was to come over and look at it, he would take the car off sale.. and arrange to collect me from a train station.

I guess i'm a bit surprised at how pleasant and helpful he was..

Anyone have any experience with 'Small Car Company'?

Time to ring the insurance... clap

Be weary of secondhand car salesmen who sound too nice and are willing to go out of their way to get the sale...

Yes, do join us MX5'ers.. We're a good bunch.

I always love speaking to other enthusiasts on the phone, sometimes we get some in and I have to be told to let them leave the dealership else I'd talk all day hehe

I'm impressed by Fernhurst TVR's guys. Very friendly, open and honest. Next time I'm going to buy a TVR, I might not bother to test drive it but just transfer the funds and get them to deliver it as I'm that confident of them.

Some of us do care about being professional!

I've got customers overseas who trust me enough to buy £250k cars on our description and photos alone, one chap in HK has had over a million £ worth and I've never met him!

Talk about damned if you do and damned if you dont!

People buy from people, and the dealer sounds like a proper chap to me.....

You don't know he's showing *all* the bad parts! biggrin

But yeah, it's a positive start but don't let it drop your guard down.

The trouble is 90% of car dealers want to sell good cars to good people, but the 10% ruin in, and exactly the same the other way round. Dealers get so many pikey skint timewasters they are naturally on thier guard and come across as hostile/unhelpful...

Always nice when you get a genuine dealer who knows the meaning of the word customer service.
