So, I have completed my CCNA Discovery course at college comprimising of CCNA1-4. Pretty sure this is a decent IT qualification to have in I.T and gives me a decent chance to upgrade on this to make it a bit better.
Currently, I'm looking for a full time job now that I have finished my college for summer and while having a part time job at the local supermarket, I don't quite feel this is a career for the rest of my life.
Theres a very large company office locally(ish) that I am going to enquire at and mention the skills I have, but other than that I don't think there is much going for me. I've done a quick search on the 'net, which returns possible 1st Line Support/Helpdesk. Presumeably this is the place to be starting, on around 15-20k.
Where should I be looking for Jobs?
What should I be saying on my CV/Covering Letter?
What kind of information should I know about systems to get started in this business?
Anyone in Lincolnshire looking for a IT technician?

My advice would be that you need to get some form of commercial experience under your belt, qualifications/certifications are all very well but all they prove is that you can work to a certain understanding, they don't demonstrate your ability to work in a "live environment".
Ok so the negatives:
IT support - so network, server and helpdesk/desktop - are hugely oversubscribed. To stand a chance of getting a job you need to show some commercial exposure.
So a postive approach would be:
Try searching for charities locally who may have a small IT system that you can get involved with helping support, clearly this will need to be for free but it will at least allow you to gain some commercial exposure. Even a small charity will have some form of network set up between PC's, possibly wireless routers, POS, printer and maybe even a small server for data backup.
Secondly draw up a list of local medium to large sized businesses i.e. 100+ user base and then make speculative applications with a copy of your CV, the reason why you want to work for that company and that you are embarking on a career in IT and would be willing to start at the bottom so you can build useful experience.
If you haven't already then register on LinkedIn and search for IT Manager/Network Manager/Support Manager/IT Ops Manager based within 10 miles of Lincolnshire. Put in your profile that you are searching for a support role ideally within networking.
Do any of your freinds relatives work in businesses locally? Could they sponsor you into the business on a trial basis/work experience?

Following on from that last post, a mate of mine worked at a school as their system administrator and said that it was a great springboard into IT because he was able to demonstrate that he could deal with things at the sharp end. I'm going to get some flak for this but in my experience the IT guys who work at schools are not the best so you will probably get lots of hands on experience un-buggering things. Good luck with it!
