Horn broken

it was working the other night when my 2 year old tried it several times, and now nothing.

Wiring to both horns seems intact, fuse (if the handbook is to be beleived) (3rd from left) is intact.

Do the horn buttons break, or come adrift ?

Mine is a bit intermittent and I haven't been able to find any obvious cause - I will be interested to hear what others say

Pull the button out (it's easy) and earth the connector to the boss, the horn should sound.

mine needed the contact ring cleaning behind the wheel a few years back....

wheel is easy to take off, just undo the bolts n pull

Mine wasnt tried and tried until i stopped as would have broken the steering wheel

I had intermittent horn on my '92 Griff. The fuse was fine, the horns were fine (tested them with a direct 12v source) the button worked fine (tested that with a meter)

I found the horn worked whilst driving into bends and if I pushed hard on the steering wheel when stationary whilst pushing the button.

My car has adjustable steering and I found that when I took the horn feed off that back of the ring and touched it to the adjustable part it didn't sound, but when I touched it onto the fixed column it did. I found the earth wire was only supplied to the fixed part of the steering column under the dash. I extended the earth from there to the adjustable part nearer the steering wheel and hey presto!

since discovered it works with the steering in most positions but not all so some investigation required. hopefully tomorrow at the mot the tester will have the wheel straight ahead !

Sounds like the contacts need cleaning as the wheel turns - you'll find a lot of dust/fluff collects and a good contact isn't being made. You need to take the cowling off from what I can remember. The little pimple ctahces on the steering wheel mount which you'll see when the cowling is removed. Hopefully just all needs a clean up.
