peugeot wont start help
Discussion
the car broke down after over heating a lot aa said head has gne changed head with a recon one put all back togethor and its still the same i turn the engine over but it turns really fast (like theres no compression )its sparking and the injectors are working diagnostic brought up no fault codes i think it might be the bottom end but dont know how to tell or where to start now im lost
if it was a problem with the bottom end it wouldnt cause a lack of compression.
if you suspect a lack of compression, then buy a compression tester (or borrow one from someone?). compare the compression in each cylinder, and compare them to what the compression should be with that particular engine
if its definately a lack of compression the most likely problems are:
-damaged/corroded valves or valve seats (unlikely if its a recon head)
-worn piston rings (dont think overheating would cause this, but will definately cause a lack of compression if they are worn)
-blown head gasket (i assume you fitted a new one with the recon head so unlikely to be the fault)
just out of curiosity, why did you let it overheat alot? surely you would've noticed when the car started to overheat... ?
hope that helps

its not my car its my friends he was on motorway in slow moving tttraffic when light came on he speeded up thinking it would cool down not knowing hes water pipe had burst and he had no water
i think it is compression because it dont try just spins fast lke your turning it over with no inlet/exhaust manifolds on could it have something to do with chambers as this is not a solid bottom end thanks for the reply ill try compression test

Which Pug engine/car is it?
The 206 engines (1.1 up to 1.6) are known for the water pipe to burst and they overheat pretty much instantly. They are very forgiving engines though (in this respect only) and you would have had to driven it far to mess it up too badly...but then I never sped up and created more heat when mine did it...

lol i would but best i could do is hit it with a stick thanks
That could work you know. That might actually make it better. Having worked with french people a lot, this type of methodology is at first very concerning but you soon realise thats its because they are French they believe it will work.I got in a works car the other day. A beautiful 06' burgendy Pug 807, 7900miles on the clock and the whole door fell off.
I not pulling your todger, it actually fell off. At which point a women asked if i could "put it back on". I mean what the f
k.I do you hope you fix it though, car problems can be very stressful.
best of luck,

what can i say the guys an idiot thinking of putting new bottom end in would this solve the problem thanks
i really doubt this will fix the problem...but if this is what the car needed, then surely it would be cheaper to buy a second hand engine than to replace the bottom end?
honestly, if you think that the engine has no compression, you should buy a compression tester.. then you can narrow it down to / rule out that compression is the problem. easier place to get one would be halfords for about 20 quid
hope that helps

It does'nt help but i would reccommend shooting it. With something like a 50 cal...... a lot.
Sorry, hate the french, and in particular peugeot.
Best of luck with it.

Depending on which pug it is you could just buy a whole new engine.
The 206 engine goes for £100 second hand for the 1.1 and a few hundred more for the GTI. Only things that really you need to look at is weather the car is multi-plexed or not and match it to the new engine. (to save you re-wiring all the electrics) You would also be wise to get an engine of around the same age too because somewhere around 02-05 they did a software update that means the speedo will not work without an update (another 60-70 pounds at a dealership just to diagnose what software you need, then another 60 quid to load it...)
Obviously the above only counts for a 206 since we don't know what pug it is so I just picked the most popular model...

thanks for the replys everyone ive bought a second hand engine and im going to fit it in the car its a 106 1.1 injection the engine cost 150 quid done 42000 miles same reg and i think is a tu1jp hope all goes well and runs good
ps didnt know i had to drop engine and gear box till after i bought engine just thought i could take engine out and slide new one in lol ohh well let the fun begin!!!

Yeah need to drop them but fitting after that *should* be straight forward. On the 206 I had lots of electrics to reconnect (Wires go everywhere!) so if the 106 engine is anything like the same, label every wire you take off or its a real pain in the blumin arse matching colours...which ussually do everything BUT match
