Started a new project recently, capturing the world outside the cocooned existence of the daily commute.

C&C appreciated.

Nice idea, here's a similar one from Julieanne Kost the Adobe evangelist http://www.jkost.com/windowseat.html

Looks like you were lucky enough to get a seat, and a window seat at that!

Actually that rather captures the 'cocooned existence of the everyday commute'!

Looks like a good book, thanks for pointing it out. I have to say that I never expected this idea to be new, but hopefully I can add a unique twist to it.

Well after travelling by train from Essex to London day in, day out for well over a decade it's looking increasingly likely that by the end of the year my commute will be undertaken on the green and pleasant lanes of Gloucestershire instead, so I thought I would try and document the mix of urban, rural and industrial landscapes that I'm whisked through.

I have been getting some funny looks on the train though. hehe

Slightly muted colours, blurred foreground that stops it feeling staid but that motion progressively effects the motion effect the further back you look. Makes your eye run to the horizon and then to the sky.

C+C? Guess you added a bit of vignetting? The bottom corners look a little dark imo. (can't tell if its mostly the foreground rushing past though)

Thanks for posting smile

Cheers.

Nice idea Mike, particularly the last one, as it’s a more abstract / intriguing image! How about bunging an ND on the front to create a longer “streak” affect?

Cheers Paul, I do actually have some with longer streaks and I don't think they look as good as they lose all definition and just end up as strips of colour. The one you pointed out is one of my favourites too, that one was actually taken with the train moving at a fairly low speed as it was just pulling out of the station.

Read it three times but still no idea. Either you or the red wine is the problem...

No vignette added, just the one flaw of the Canon 15-85mm IS, not done a great deal of PP at all really as I want to try to keep the photo;s as a documentary rather than trying to create masterpieces.

BTW Simpo, I'm not sure it does make sense but I know what he means. hehe

I calculate that by the year 2014 you will have enough photos to make a complete albeit blurred panorama of your journey.

lol, had to read it three times to remember what I meant as well hehe

Apologies for the poor word choice and phrasing, I just meant that the motion blurs the detail less and less the further 'back' into the picture you look. So it leads your eye to the horizon.

I should probably re-read things before I post wink

Cheers.

I bought a couple of domains a few years back - tracksideguides.com - the idea was to get people to post up info / reviews of stuff that one can see out of the window of trains. Never got round to building it though.
