I currently have a IS220d as a company car which is coming to the end of its 3 year lease. I have been told that due to a manager leaving I will be having his old car (08 plate new shape Mondeo Titanium X Estate Auto), this would be fine except.

1. He has treated it like a skip on wheels, he has young kids and you can imagine what the back seats are like!
2. Its hardly ever been cleaned, got a few dents and one scrape which has rusted.
3. He has smoked a lot in it!!
4. He has smoked a lot in it!!!!

all for the privilege of having to pay an extra £25 per month in co car tax!!!!

Now I'm not normally annoyed by stuff like this and I'll go with the flow at work, its a small company in construction and things are tough at the minute. It just really grates me to have to pay more for what I consider a shed!

No chance of extending lease on what you've got?
Or buying/running your own car?

Shop him for smoking in a company vehicle... wink

Seriously, I'd reject the car unless all the problems were sorted - isn't that the point of having a company car, the lease company sorts out all the issues, no quibbles?

I'd be inclined to say no on the basis that he has smoked in it and if you/your wife/your kids don't smoke (let's hope the kids at least don't!) then you don't want his second hand nicotine.

Wrong!

You want the nicotine, not the cancer causing chemicals and all the second hand sweaty man crack bum puffs drilled into the very core of the seat, that are released like a glade "touch'n'fresh" everytime you get in.......

Whilst my car is a lease car it is the last one we leased, the Mondeo was bought and is paid for outright. There is no cash for company car scheme.

As I only live a couple of miles from work I am seriously considering cycling to work and not paying company car tax and just use it to visit sites. I don't care that its dented / scratched / been smoked in, my mum &dad used to smoke so a good clean and it will be ok, I just don't want to pay more for (in my opinion) for less.

Shame because it's quite a nice car otherwise, loads of toys, comfy, auto box isn't great but hey.

edit: crap punctuation

If you do end up taking the car make sure you record every ding, dent and scratch before accepting it, and make sure that this is written down and agreed with your company.

When the lease is up the lease co will be expecting your co to pay to repair any damage and you dont want to end up having to pay for it yourself.

eh? Your first post listed all the stuff you didn't like and now you say you daon't care about that, it's merely the money aspect. confused

In that case I'd definitely walk/run/cycle to work and just use it as a pool car as and when you need to. No point paying more tax when you don't need to.

Sorry, the point I'm trying to make is if the car was in a condition that was nearly new (which it is and should be!) I wouldn't have a problem in paying that bit extra a month for it. The fact that it isn't AND it's going to cost me more is grating on me. I was only trying to give you an example of what kind of state the car is in.

Don't go there! When I first started I got given a 1.7TD Cavalier it was an absolute wreck, one night it got nicked from outside the house, all the lads reckon I buried it in the garden just to get a new car! laugh

Yes, you are. Say you're happy to have it on the basis that it is properly valet cleaned to remove the smoke residue and that the dents are sorted as the condition of the car reflects badly on you.

Get quotes and give them the costs - it should be no more than a couple of hundred quid - and tell them you will take it to be done.

Then enjoy the car and get on with your life.

Good news, someone else took the Mondeo and I've just ordered an Octavia VRS diesel.

But we had a deal, I was going to torch the Mondy for you. I still want half of the fee that we agreed.
