Hi gents.

I have stupidly agreed to help my mate change his front pads and discs on his E46 320D. Before we get stuck in, can anyone tell me if there are any obstacles with this job that require special tools etc? Or is it the standard requirements for pushing pistons back etc?

Thanks in advance!

No special tools needed.

It's standard allen bolts for the caliper and he'll need a wear indicator as well as the discs and pads.

you'll need a breaker bar to get the caliper holder bolts off, apart from that all dead simple :-)

I needed a 7mm allen key when I did he front discs on my E46 330Ci. It was the only tool I didn't have and only discivered this when I had the wheels off, etc. Sent Mrs S off to find one promptly!

Quite a straight forward task. My old discs took quite a bit of encouragement (with a large rubber mallet) to part company with the hubs!
