If they do it then Tom Cruise is going to be an instructor, training some young hotshot pilot (Shia Le Bouf or whatever he's called or someone similar), Goose will still be dead, Kelly McGillis has become a Lesbian.

Some things are better left in the past. Top Gun was a brilliant homo-erotic cliched adventure, lets not ruin it biggrin

They'd ruin it, and for some reason I think they'd have a brown actor playing the starring role who has suffered racism at the Top Gun school and during an intense battle against British Petroleum (or other latest American "Axis of Evil") he saves the racist, they become friends and they have homosexual hugs at the end. I am also thinking they might substitute the oiled up volleyball for perhaps man on man nude oil wrestling instead, not sure :P

I think I might have summed up Top Gun 2 quite well there hehe

The plot will be Cruise sat at a lap top 2000 miles away from Iraq pointing and clicking on googlemaps telling his predator drone what to drop bombs on. He won't ride a GPZ, he'll be in Prius, and the sporting scene will be replaced him volunteering at a homeless shelter.

Mr Cruise is very into his airplanes so Im sure at the very least itd have some nice airplane bits in it.

Sure he pretty much bought an F-14 to fly privately when they were retired, but they all had their backs broken to stop Iran getting any bits much to the annoyance of the midget.

Jamie Foxx will be the black guy.

Will probably involve a storyline encompassing nano technology cameras, bikes which mysteriously change tyres, a skinny bird who needs to be rescued, a taxi, some guns, plenty of cliches, a gander, a super criminal and a self destructing iPod. Oh and some baby oil for the homo erotic bit.

There are lots of homo-erotic comments about Top Gun. Am I the only bloke who has watched it and never cared/bothered about the homo angle? My TG thoughts go:

1. Kewl planes
2. Sexy bird
3. Kewl music
4. Cracking lines
5. Kewl speedster

and that is pretty much it.

No you're not. I've watched it quite a few times and it never occurred to me that it was a gay film. I always assumed the muscley-men/volleyball bits and the whole Kelly McGillis love interest were there just to keep bored girlfriends interested (in which regard I can honestly say it was successful).

And it's especially not true if you compare it to that Brokeback Mountain movie my wife made me watch about gay cowboys "because it's a beautiful love story".

The whole gay thing was started by tarantino who spent the 80's having sand kicked in his face by people like Iceman while he cowered in the back of a video store jacking off to obscure black and white tosh.....no wonder he hates it!

The blue ray 20th anniversary thing has a great interview with Tony Scott about the volleyball stuff...he was told to make it sexy for the girls that got dragged to see it by their boyfriends so he covered them in oil and "shot the st out of it" pop video style.

As an aside - the blue ray is STUNNING....on a good TV it looks like it was filmed yesterday - and the fly by on a good sound system is my fav film for showing off the audio set up i have......and HOURS of interviews with some genuinely interesting behind the scenes people.....oh, and Scott gave Kelly the role because he saw her tits in witness!

Amen to this. The BR is truly epic.

On an odd side note, the pilot who did all of Maverick's flying scenes, including the flyby, ended up flying the shuttle.

Scott Altman, his last flight was STS-125 (the final Hubble service mission).

It's apparently him giving the bird in the opening sequence for one shot.
