Hi, I'm making a 3d version of the location for a racing/driving simulation (non-profit, all free), and was looking for imagery to help create mainly the trees/tree lines/types of trees. I am starting to work out from the main runway/taxiway areas now which are almost complete, and into the scenery beyond.

Chances are I'll build textures up from tree imagery I take elsewhere in the right conditions, but I'd prefer to make sure I choose the right types of trees for different parts, and get them looking about the right heights etc, and to do that reference imagery is essential.

If anyone knows of any really good web sites with images from this place that would be really handy.

Alternatively, does anyone know how easy it is to get on site when it is quiet to just go take photos? (ie an evening in summer?)

Many thanks

Dave

What about you tube - loads of in car stuff. Google earth is good for reference as well.

TBH, I wouldn't bother being that accurate; on every TD I've done there you get no where near the edge of the concrete so the trees are just a green wall.

I've got the full range of terrain models, contour data, aeriel imagery (google and others) and land line data etc etc... it's all pretty much really spot on now with regards to stuff you can see from the sky.

Some videos look pretty nice, but many are down the eastern end... I did find a great one with a 911 Turbo on there a while ago but can't find it any more. It had inside and outside shots from a distance and you really got a good sense of the size of the trees, especially down the western end (they look bloody tall!)

I might give the owners a bell and see about going one day mid-week and just taking photos... such a long walk so maybe they will let me drive down to the far end! I remember going there for model airshows 15 years ago and even walking the central 1/3rd of the runway took a fair old while biggrin

Its Javelin trackdays that run things there - they have links on their site for their photographer who move aorund the airfield a bit, so you should get some photos.

Alternatively, it is quite easy to just sneak on, gates always been open when I'm there, alternative is to just ask.

I think I'll give them a bell rather than sneak on hehe... honesty might get me a bit more flexibility which could be handy smile

It is currently being created for a sim called Racer (free), but it could easily be converted to rFactor or anything else...

Racer is fairly hard to develop for and not so much content of really high quality yet, but it will do soon I hope. The last year has seen some really nice development tools come about, and loads of updates to the sim itself!

Lots of features on a par with GT5 if they are implemented properly, so obviously authoring is getting pretty heavy duty with lots of things to manage in detail.
It'll be configurable for the springs, trackdays, exprience days, TOTB layouts, skidpans, slaloms etc etc etc...

Thanks

If you do go over to the airfield, look for Steve, .... he is the manager, and looks after any activity going on, from motor related events to aircraft landing, and refuelling. Explain exactly what you want, & I'm sure you will find him extremely accomodating. HTH Howard
