We'll be in LA for a few days in December and are planning on driving to Vegas etc. Can anyone recommend any good rental deals? Ideally would like something vaguely interesting like a Mustang Convertible or a Camaro of some description.

I got some very good rates from Avis via the www.ba.com website. Good thing is the prices are all inclusive, all the insurance etc, many other 'cheaper' deals are not!

Not sure about proper cars though, I just got a base Kia!

Just had a look at Hertz and they do their own special edition ZHZ Corvette for not stupid money. I think I might have to go for that!

ETA: Booked!

Find some open road and I promise you'll be mightily impressed....

We're intending on driving from LA to Vegas and also doing a loop from Vegas through Death Valley. Should be good although not very hot in December. Went for the convertible so will have to pack reasonably light as the boot is fairly small compared to the coupe. Looking forward to it!

For a fun driving road with some stunning scenery at the end do Valley of Fire from Vegas (there and back in half a day if you're in a hurry wink). Take the 167 just north of Lake Mead and not the freeway and it's a really great drive with some proper twisties, dips and crests. We've ran one of the Vettes through Death Valley with outside temps registering 120 degrees and even giving it beans all the temps (and air cond!) were fine and it never missed a beat.

I'm a little concerned that the car we get will be pretty old when we get it (since they are limited edition) but hopefully it'll be fine. If it's ropey I may try and wangle some money off or a swap for something in their "Prestige" collection.

Our rental 'vettes (and Shebly Mustangs, and cooking mustang, and...) have all been sheds cosmetically, and relatively high milers too. Hertz certainly don't keep then pristine! But ours have always driven well, which is what's really impressed me about them - even after having been flogged to death they've run like clockwork and handled astonishingly well.
