For some reason I've always fancied having a ride on an Ostrich (in a non sexual way, I swear). Has anyone here ever done it or heard about anyone else having a go?

I know of at least one Ostrich farm down this way but I have doubts that they'd react well if I rang them up to enquire. Sneaking into the field at night is probably not an option as I reckon the birds are pretty noisy if ridden by a stranger. I also saw that they're quite cheap to buy as chicks but I really don't have the room for one in my garden.

If anyone here owns an Ostrich or knows anyone that farms them, I'm willing to pay up to forty pounds sterling for a quick sprint around the paddock.

I am reminded of that German woman who thought it might be a good idea to sneak into the polar bear enclosure and go swimming with them...

Dangerous animals, ostriches.

I've done it. Was quite fun, really scary and very fast.

They put a little hood on the guy first then easy him into a little wooden holding pen thing. Then you hop on and as soon as they take the hood off the thing just goes fking mental and charges about with you holding on to its wings until you beg for someone to stop it again.

Doubt you can do it in this country, best head out to South africa smile

That is even if you can make them run around with you on them, I cannot imagine they are the most obedient critters...

Tell me you were eight when that happened. Surely they don't let adults on?

Ahh, this is the stuff. I think South Africa is a little over my budget though but it's good to know it can be done.

I'd put a pair of very thick socks on it first to save the threat of disembowelment when I inevitably fall off.

No the adults ride adult ones and children ride baby ones. Duh.

Do you honestly think it would be preferrable to let 8 year old kids ride them instead of adults?
