Waterproofing the Hood
Discussion
Having searched the archives, I've found that the most recommended product to waterproof the hood is Thompsons Waterseal, but which product? I have been to their website and have found a multitude of products. The one specifically for fabric comes in a spray can - not best suited to a hood, whereas the 'brick' one says to not use on fabric - but I though that was the product the most people used???? Confused?? Lots!!
What have you used to waterproof your hood?
What have you used to waterproof your hood?
I have also used fabsil and found it to be easy to apply.
I would suggest forgetting about the spray adn go for the liquid. This is much easier to get into the seams and keep off the bodywork and glass.
It takes about one pot-noodle pot (normal size) to do one coat and takes around an hour to do it.
As with any of the waterproofers that are available make sure that the hood is completely dry before applying.

but for that product, it says "Do not use on asphalt, plastic, natural rubber or fabric, in below grade application where water pressure is a problem, or on painted or recently stained surfaces. "

Yes, it means that it should not be used where it would cause a build up of water behind it.
i.e. you paint on brickwork that has damp behind it & 'cos it creates a waterproof barrier makes matters worse (say you were to apply it below a damp proof course on a house, or a retaining wall etc etc).
Stop worrying a give yer hood a couple of coats.

I had the classic "can't see where its getting in" water problem with the hood. Six coats of Thompsons and now its bone dry behind the seats...... the drivers footwell is still suffering, but I know where its getting in... just a case of fixing it.....
edited to add: I think teh previous owner kept it in a garage, and didn't re-proof teh roof very often, hence the 6 coats. I'm just gonna throw a coat on it occasionally to keep it up now....
