Hi everyone,
My nephew has finally decided it is time to learn how to drive instead of begging for lifts all the time, he has just turned 17 and is saving to take a crash course so he can pass first time and save money.
He loves Euro style cars and has decided he wants to make his own but he needs an estate to fit his tools in.
He has £1000-1500 to spend on the car itself and he is looking to pay around £2000 for the insurance.
Hes not too picky what it is other than that.
Cheers

How about a leggy passat? I doubt too many teenagers have crashed one either so insurance might be a bit less painfull.

B3/B4/B5 Passat or Mk3 Golf Estate. Either work as a Euro looker.

I have a 2000 model passat estate, it's 77k on the clock and probably not worth more that 1500.
I've had few problems with mine but it does seem to need front disks rather often due to corrosion.
Does everthing I need it to as a family car.
Mines the 1800 but I should probably have found a turbo model.

I am correct in thinking that they are all Turbo Diesels ??
I think that is where the problem lies :/
Im not 100% sure so I will have to get him to check some insurance quotes, I was just wondering if there was any you guys knew of that were particularly cheap

Em.... ok?

Also, this:

Although that is a really nice Audi but with it being 1.8 and relatively new I can imagine it costing a fortune to insure

Old normally aspirated 1.9D Diesel Passat estate. 1995 vintage. Slow as you like but look ok when hit with the stick.

Would've thought insurance would be low on a diesel golf estate mk3? Speed of smell though.

Best thing to do is go onto Parkers to get the insurance group. Anything less than 5 at 17 is well the cheapest you're gonna get.

You'll be surprised what is low and what is high. While they are not always the main factor in price, they generally do dictate it at young age in my experience.

The lowest ones seem to be around 7-8 for a golf and 8-10 for a passat

Anyone know how much that will equate to in insurance costs for a 17 year old ??

If cheapness is a priority and it has to be VAG, how about an early model Octavia?

Get this and Euro-Look it. Ins Group 12 and not crashed by enough Teenagers for insurance to care.

Listen to this man. Cordobas are pretty good and have a huuuuge boot.

Golf will cost a fortune to insure because lots of 17 year olds have them and drive like f##kwits.
