A shed?

Classic and Sports Cars mag have a barnfinds page every month. Other than that, knocking on lots of doors asking if they've got something tucked away you can buy. Start in the Newport Pagnell area... I'd be surprised if you can find anything though.

I've got a DB5 in my back garden which is taking up a lot of space. And there's an early DB4 with numbers on the door parked in someones drive round the corner from here. i doubt if they'll be worth much as they rust, you see

I once remember seeing a very, very badly-worded advert in Classics Monthly claiming that there was a genuine 'Shellby Colbra' in a garden, 'buyer to collect from garden - very overgrown'.

Made me wonder whether some chancer had bought himself a half-finished Cobra kit car and, having given up trying to build the thing, thought he'd mock up his own 'barn find'.

Seriously, who absent-mindedly leaves a genuine Shelby Cobra in a garden to rot?

Could you just buy one through normal channels and get a mate to hide it for you and give you clues?

Get handy with Google earth??

I think most 'barn finds' are total luck. Its someone that knows someone that knew this guy once that had this car. Mostly where the owner has passed away leaving to a wife that doesnt care or something.

Odd question though.

Do you know what model you want, price you want to pay etc?

Looking at the results of classic auctions recently 'barn find' cars often seem to make more money than some decent roadworthy condition 1/2 cars.

I suspect many 'barn finds' tend to be decent condition 2 cars with trim removed and a bit of cement dust and bird muck thrown over for a bit of theatre before being moved from being layed up in a garage to a barn in order to be 'disinterred' and photographed prior to auction! Cynical moi?

The relevant owners club would be the best place to start your search I would say.

You'll be lucky - recently a barn find DB6 went for considerably more than a full works reconditioned one at the same auction.
